TLDR version. If you post a video showing people how to bypass the hardware requirements, online account login, etc. You get a strike because they say it’s “Harmful or Dangerous Content” that “encourages dangerous or illegal activities that risk serious physical harm or death”. So are they saying that hacking windoze will result in your computer exploding or that Microshaft will send a hitman after you? Because last time I checked violating an EULA is not actually illegal.
Or is it all BS and just big business protecting big business?
Legal or not. Doesn’t matter. Use your own judgement. “One has not only a legal but a moral
responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey
unjust laws.” Martin Luther King Jr. This would mean ultimately you should act how you believe is right and use own judgement (since your the one who judges if a law is just or not). Follow your own moral code not blind obedience to whoever happens to rule over you. But you are right its not illegal.
The problem is, as a moral and just society, we must agree on some base principles. Otherwise terms like moral and legal are highly subjective. I think what MLK Jr. doesn’t explain about self governance, is that those practicing it should have a moral compass that does not allow them victimize others.
People that do not read the EULA or ToS and consent to use it anyway are just as much at fault. Addiction is no excuse for using something that would otherwise violate your morals and ethics. If more people refused, the popularity and necessity would reduce over time. I’m not just picking on Windows users about this. FOSS has some really bad practices, many of which brought a lot of people here.
We get a lot of complaints from people that the distro isn’t a Next-Next-Finish experience just like the distro they used, where the project contains people at the decision making level that hate them. Those project decision makers think they are acting in the moral good. They believe they are saving the world from the evil capitalist fascists, which is the same level of oxymoron as democratic republic, or Microsoft Works.
The bigger problem is that people are so compartmentalized that it’s almost impossible to form an absolute moral compass by which to determine what is right and wrong. Unless you use very simple tenants like don’t physically hurt people, and don’t steal their property.
Normal people should not have to worry about any of this shit. They should be able to just buy a computer from any vendor and use it without even knowing any of this garbage. This stuff is for nerds.
The things these big tech companies do with the EULA and TOS needs to just be illegal. If we lived in real countries with real societies, none of this stuff would be allowed. We need a heavy duty banhammer, so many things need to be illegal with heavy penalties and serious consequences.
If a software company wants to put spyware in their software it should be legal. But it should be clear what it is and what it does. The hiding of it behind legal jargon in mile long user agreements, or not disclosing it at all needs to end. There should be a clear bullet point list of what it collects and how it will be used disclosed in the installer before it actually installs. And if it’s not clear and complete, huge fines. I also don’t understand how Windoze isn’t considered a monopoly.
But that is predatory to stupid people or people who are not interested in these issues enough to even look into it. Rules are important in society and we are in the process of paying for our lack of real rules.
Just like the poor quality of the food supply should not be allowed.
Just like tracking people for the purpose of advertising should be illegal.
Advertising itself should be severely limited and regulated if not banned outright.
Usury is predator and should be outlawed completely.
You can make excuses for our predatory, parasitic and financialized society if you want, but you are on the moral low ground there.
Allowing companies to do whatever they want to make money and then putting the responsibility on the customer or end user is disgusting.
If the gov’t had the power to do all that you desire, we would be living in a dystopian nightmare far, far worse than the one we currently live in, and in very short order.
Freedom is scary and dangerous. Deal with it.
Oh, I forgot, you are not interested in freedom, rather, you are interested in using force to usher in your particular “utopia.”
Poor quality of food needs to be disclosed, not regulated until we are only allowed to eat government approved pellets. Also better education on nutrition and overall health.
Again tracking needs to be disclosed with clarity on what is being tracked, collected, recorded and how it’s used. If someone is okay with some mega corp tracking and listening to everything they do fine. Where I draw the line is the AI and companion apps that listen to and record everything spoken in the presence of these devices. I can’t control if your device is recording me, especially if I don’t even know that it’s present.
Advertising is advertising. I hate that everything is being covered in ads, but that’s one price you pay for a free society. But I do draw a line at ads targeting children.
Just gonna disagree with that whole thing there. None of it is really valid.
Except the UK stuff, that is very bad commie stuff.
I’m not a libertarian like all you guys and I’m not going to have that conversation here.
You do realize that at least 60% of all people are basically retards right? They have no agency whatsoever and are not really personally responsible for anything. Why should people be punished for being born stupid? You cannot control your IQ, it is mostly genetic.
“MUH FREEDOM” is not an answer to any of our problems. That view is not supported by anything in reality.
Some of you get confused by the freedom thing, but I can explain it very simply:
A country can have freedom or multiculturalism, but not both. The collective West has chosen multiculturalism, so freedom is not an option available to us.
It’s like a sliding scale. The more multiculturalism there is in a place, the less freedom can work there. It is just not possible at all after a certain level.
Just stop and think about it if you live in one of these countries. Think about the timing of the declining freedom vs the rise of multiculturalism in your country. If you are honest with yourself, you will see that I am correct here.
Enough people believe authoritarianism can be done successfully without consequences. That is the scary part. The most power hungry, yet fully mentally challenged, always end up in charge in authoritarian regimes. History is littered with examples. Trading freedom for security always results in ending with neither.
Of course, somebody will tell me this time is different, because “this time is different because I said so.” Or “this time is different because it is written.” Whether it is written or not, at that point, becomes irrelevant, so long as the believer believes in the repeatedly failed fairy tale.
Now I believe this is about the time again when I am told I am stupid, much like last time. “Because I said so!” I never did thank him for exposing himself for all to see. Should I?
Personally, I think that this strange desire to use armed goons to force all of society into some form or another is a mental illness, a form of psychopathy.
