I understand the previous warning about using Discover, but have you forgotten about this:
Maybe it’s just a habit now to say “Discover Bad”?

I think what needs to be discussed is what is GOOD about Discover. Not to force people into using it, if it doesn’t work for OM. But because whatever is GOOD shouldn’t be thrown away and forgotten just because there are bugs.
Features which could be used in improving Flatdrake or another program if someone ever makes one. Just talking about how bad it is runs the risk of not knowing what can be carried over into a OM specific package.
Personally I like the fact that it can search for programs if a fairly straitforward manner. I like that reviews can be read before installing programs which otherwise have no other recommendations. I like the other bits of information provided about the program to be installed.
If we discuss what is useful about it the discussion will die a natural death.
No, I have not forgotten. I have tested it thoroughly. It leaves hung processes that I have to reboot to get rid of. I am done with it. Drive a stake in its heart.

These are not “bugs,” but things that KDE refuses to change. We have been arguing this topic for years. If you want to praise Discover, go to the KDE forums and do it there.
. If you want to praise Discover, go to the KDE forums and do it there.
Calling it praise is obfuscating the purpose. Praise is a recommendation of use or feedback given to it’s creator. That has nothing to do with my idea.
You want to drive a stake into its heart but why don’t you tell me where it’s heart is? or what material you’re going to make the stake from?
These questions are part of the solution.
The problem is that we warn you not to use it and you do so anyway. Then you want to sit here and tell us how wonderful it is while we try to troubleshoot what it just broke on your system.

I have since stopped using Discover. I only really used it because I was coming from Ubuntu where it was the best option, and I had closed out the banner which said at the bottom not to use it.
I don’t see anyone coming here to say how wonderful Discover is, but I do see all the requests for support. I think you’re maligning the hard working developers of OM, of whom someone decided to include discover, by passive aggressively blaming the people that run into obstacles.
It works on Ubuntu, because it uses the correct command for Ubuntu. That command does not work on any rolling release. This same discussion is happening at Arch and openSUSE and other forums that use rolling release models. This has been happening for years, because KDE refuses to fix it. Still, they make it part of Plasma.
Did you read that banner before you dismissed it? Most did not.
KDE could give us a module to input the commands we need for OM, but they won’t do that.
This has been happening for years,
So what delayed Bero’s attempt to make a fix until 5 days ago? I don’t mean him personally, It could have been anyone from a Rolling Release Linux OS. Is it too hard to believe that it can be fixed?
Your blaming of KDE needs more support. Where are the requests? Why has rzeczyspisane, Ulrich Palecek, @ddjivan.bsky.social, Andreas Zautner and FinnedMercury91 denied them?
Because the KDE devs could do this. Why hasn’t KDE fixed it? Go ask them. You sound like you know them all.
Who would want to go there after reading all the negative comments about them here?? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
This is why negative opinions need receipts!
What receipts do you want?
Did you read the Big Fat Warning before you dismissed it?
Do you not believe that this discussion has been going on for years?
Do you really think that this is a new thing and it only happens to OpenMandriva?
Did you read that banner before you dismissed it?
The users can still read the full topic here.
Bookmark that.
Not a stake but may works regardless.
Hope I catched its heart, wherever it was…
The point is that warnings tells: DO NOT use Discover for system upgrade.
End-users just have to follow instructions. Not hard isn’t it?
PEBKAC is really not something that we are that eager to fix.
Then if you are a developer and want to fix KDE Discover upstream please do. We can to re-re-re-re-repeat why it does not work for rolling distributions.
So what delayed Bero’s attempt to make a fix until 5 days ago?
OpenMandriva is a Community distribution.
It has no employees, consists of a small group of all volunteer, unpaid, part-time, developers.
As a Community distribution of Linux we depend on community members to help solve issues and make things better.
You can make OpenMandriva grow and improve by getting involved.

Ok I’m just going to suggest you two spend more time off the Forum and take my leave.
Have a nice day!
You would think we had kicked his dog. He thinks we hate KDE. I love Plasma. I just hate seeing Discover destroy people’s systems and then have to watch them defend it.

I could not wait to read your kind suggestion, so will take in big consideration. Thank you very much.
