Trinity DE

So… I just wanted to know how’s TDE is going.
Is already up? Working well? I tried on a Q4OS virtual machine, but I wanted to know how’s doing on OM.

It is available in cooker and ROME and functions as expected. Some of our devs and users are running it as their primary desktop.

Out of insanity on my part today, I installed TDE just to see what would happen. The first thing I noticed was my display kept reverting to the built-in one on the laptop. Fine, except I never use it because I have an HDMI monitor attached. So I changed the settings for that, and all was good. Until I rebooted and everything reverted.

Then I tried to set the Super key (Win key) keyboard shortcut to open the launcher, the same way I do it in Plasma 6 and LXQT. The trouble was, it wouldn’t let me do that.

I tried to assign the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl-Alt-T” to open a terminal. That worked. Until it didn’t when I rebooted and it reverted to the default setting, which was no keyboard shortcut.

It seems as if the user is not allowed to save any settings, as they get wiped out at every reboot.

What I would like to know is, do I need to post these TDE problems in Support? Or is there some other place? Or would it be best to just hang tight because the powers in charge know about these things? Nothing life or death on my end. I was just messing around and thought someone might like to know what happened.

Yes, I know the drill. Don’t post multiple issues in one post. That is why I am asking about where I should post each one or if I should.

Yes, I am 100% unqualified to check any of this stuff. In case anyone asks.

If you are on ROME, the builds have changed in Cooker significantly. Chances are, these issues may not exist in the future. I can say that I did not see anything you are experiencing, but make sure that ~/.trinity exists and the permissions aren’t incorrect.

Interesting. I think I’ll wait for the next updates of OM Rome to try it then.

Correct. I am using Rome.

~/.trinity does exist, and the permissions seem to be correct.

One more thing I noticed was every time I tried to start DnfDrake, nothing happened.

But I will take your word. TDE is still in the “let’s see what does and doesn’t work” phase in Cooker. I would sooner let everyone take their time and check everything rather than rush and end up like Spyware 11’s latest mandatory train wreck. There is no rush. Plasma 6 and LXQt work as intended.

But if you want me to try to do something that doesn’t require vast programming skills, say so, and we can find out if it isn’t above my pay grade.

That is probably a broken/assumed dependency on Qt. It actually uses GAMBAS, and it might possible TQt makes it angry. I don’t use dnfdrake anymore, so I couldn’t say for sure. These are just educated guesses.

The ROME version is just the beginning of adding it to Cooker. A lot has changed. I am going to continue refactoring the package recipes to fix bugs here and there. The link I posted earlier will be the best place to see what isn’t working and to report something if you don’t want a GitHub account.
