Server up again, after emergency migration

Hello,

Sorry all for our infra having being unreachable since Tuesday (around 13:00 UTC).

Rants on: the provider at our data center did a very bad support, not that it was necessarily their fault, but they provided almost no help or useless or unrelated dumb replies, or even didn’t read our messages for hours. It was not possible to make the KVM over IP working, though we also asked for assistance with this tool. Then we were, and still are blind on this server. This is quite ridiculous :rage:

@jclvanier and I have then opened an account in another data center and imported there all our backups. However, unfortunately, we may miss the latest messages that were not included in the last backup, very sorry for this inconvenience.

OTOH we could update our infra, and we have a better hardware for the same price. Oh and you may notice some slight changes in this forum too

Having backups on another machine can save your day

Should we have a blog post about this? WDYT?

I was wondering but not really sure of what to say that may be interesting…

My best guess that an acknowledgment that our servers were down from blank_time to blank_time and that affected our Forum and these_sites. Back up again and we are taking blank_steps to improve the situation.

In other words just a short and factual acknowledgment of the problem and steps taken to resolve and make things better in future.

Edit: Didn’t realize that http://openmandriva.org/ is still down for maintenance.

What is interesting is to notice that our infra was quite easy to set up online elsewhere thanks to snapshots. We mainly lost time waiting for support team reactions, a little more for administrative procedure, then upgrade of system and finally migration.

To make things better, we should mix our weekly snapshots with daily specific data backup, so that we don’t loose more than 24 hours of content, without adding inconvenience with additional downtimes generated by snapshots tasks.

Also we only have 100 GB free for our data backup, which starts to be short, any idea where we could have at least the same storage capacity for free?

Nope, I forgot to change the wildcard in DNS zone  I fixed it now, I hope it will be quickly propagated

OK, thanks.

And perhaps I should mention that Issue Tracker (https://issues.openmandriva.org/) is still down as well?

Please check your email

This isn’t the end beautiful friends,
There are a lot of work still behind the doors

are still down. The fact is that we don’t have enough time to do all that is necessary.
Personally, I’m not available till next Monday. Sorry.

After the return the forums link is broken at:
https://blog.openmandriva.org
see

while the correct is:

there is a «s» not wanted.

Isn’t:

https://blog.openmandriva.org/

Archived and replaced by:

? Perhaps we need another blog post about this. Seems a lot of us, including me until recently, were continuing to look to the old blog for announcements and information. Maybe we could link the blog address to the news?
