Plasma 6 replacement with SonicDE on xLibre Cooker

Hello to everyone. I’ve been testing Cooker with latest dnf packages for almost a day now, with SonicDE and xLibre all combined.

Issues I have currently experienced so far include Plasmashell crashing the desktop wallpaper and bottom panel when keyboard input language is changed, audio output device changed, or sound volume is altered. I assume it crashes because SonicDE guys forgot or couldn’t include some of the packages from KDE’s Plasma, that SonicDE anticipates among packages related to the system overlay, like sound-volume changing one.

My solution is that I run optional “kstart5 plasmashell” command inside an .sh script in the background, that checks every 2 second if plasmashell is OK or not. And if not - relaunches it. This way instability is only slightly inconvenient.

Other than than, Chromium browsers had mystical GPU issues on ROG ALLY X (I run bare metal). I launched MS Edge via --no-gpu flag once, closed it, and then started it from plasmashell panel as usual. It proceeded to work, I have not rebooted yet to test if issue persists.

Standard Cooker’s issue with SDDM freshly after installation is KWalletd and KSecretd conflicting with xLibre and D-Bus. I just silently disable them from starting via TTY terminal, and reboot. No issues with them since, at least not in journalctl.

Other than that - ROG ALLY X is my main work machine, although I mostly use VS Code and MS Edge and more or less OS agnostic - OpenMandriva with xLibre was stable enough for the week I actively used it. I hope SonicDE team will release fixes for missing packages soon as well.

There are also components that will need to be rebuilt since Qt6 was updated. So if you ran sudo dnf dsync within the past 3 days it will most likely have issues:
