SonicDE call for testing

Thanks to the SonicDE team we are now able to start preliminary testing of their X11 only fork of Plasma.

Please be advised of the following caveats:

  • The sonic-* packages make use of a mix of KDE and SonicDE dependencies at this time. The SonicDE dependencies have not had an asset rename, yet. As a result, you cannot have both plasma and sonic packages installed at the same time. There are conflicts baked into the packages that will not allow it.
  • Testing does not mean “production ready” and you will need to provide feedback accordingly:
  • Local testing with xlibre in Cooker has been conducted and there have not been any significant issues to report at this time.

To install you should be able to do the following:

  • sudo dnf in task-sonicde - If you have plasma installed already, you will need to add --allowerasing
  • sudo dnf in task-sonicde-minimal - Same as above, only for a minimal experience

Those that were testing prior to this post will need to dsync with --allowerasing to bring in the replacement sonic dependencies. As always, if you are testing keep an eye on builds on ABF and announcements in the Cooker Matrix room before performing any dsync’s.

Enjoy.

I installed OpenMandriva Cooker onto Asus RoG Ally X and with some tampering, SonicDE and xLibre work together, along with my favourite x11-forwarding to xQuartz on mac.
