OMA Plasma Lx 4.1 x86_64 is not installed

Hello,
This system is not installed in Live mode. Reaches the point ‘Starting Terminate Plymouth Boot Screen’ and hangs. In all modes except CLI. I’ve found similar things about other Linux systems, but there is no solution to the problem.

There is still no install button without Live mode. What script is needed for such an installation from the console?

Hardware:
Processor: AMD Athlon 64, 1800 MHz (9 x 200) 2800+, One Core, x86, x86-64, MMX, 3DNow!, SSE, SSE2
M/B: Biostar GeForce 6100-M7
Memory: 2GB
Video (integrated): nVIDIA GeForce 6100, 128 MB memory, Shader Model 3.0

Thanks!

Welcome @Luser248.

That may be the problem. Perhaps the open source nouveau driver does not work well with your hardware. OpenMandriva has only unofficial community support for nvidia proprietary drivers and I don’t believe we have anything for hardware that old.

However you can try in the grub2 menu panel going to the line “Troubleshooting” and select “Boot in basic graphics mode”. That will use Vesa driver so resolution won’t be great but may work to get system installed and maybe the installed system will do better with GeForce 6100 or maybe after installed Lx 4.1 system is upgraded it will do better. There aren’t a lot of upgrades but the graphic package stack (Mesa) is one of them. (That would lead to a newer version of nouveau. We can hope this works better for you.)

Also your hardware may work better with our upcoming very soon OM Lx 4.2 Beta release. If so this would be due to something improved in those graphic packages. Announcement for this is coming soon.

Also if you can get an install done you can consider installing the nvidia proprietary driver for your hardware at nvidia web site.

Hope something I’ve typed here helps.

Alternative: Our automated build system (ABF) is to sluggish right now due to massive upload to our mirrors. When that is working normally again I will post links for latest OM Lx 4.2 ISO’s in another thread. These are Rolling branch ISO’s that may become Lx 4.2 Beta.

Thanks for the answer!

I’ve tried Vesa driver - doesn’t work. I have a working Mandriva 2010 i686. Can I pull out the driver from it in CLI mode and insert it into this system?

You can try in CLI run this command and see what it says:

$ Xorg -verbose 9

If there is anything useful there may be something for devs to work with.

Post-edit: This command is to see if nouveau is being used by Xorg or if it needs to be forced or some other fix might work. Developer tells me that nouveau should work with that hw.

If interested the new Rolling and maybe OM Lx 4.2 Beta ISO’s are here.

Here is the log. Can I install the system on a disk in CLI mode only? The console is enough for me to work.

A developer is telling me you should try our Rolling release (also OM Lx 4.2 at present) that it is much more likely that a newer version of nouveau would work. Worth a try any way.

Also if there is something we can fix so this hardware would work it would be fixed in Lx 4.2 not 4.1.

Post-edit: Actually we want to know if latest version of OM Lx works with your hardware. In general the graphic performance on older hardware of our ISO’s has gotten better since the time of Lx 4.1. Admittedly this is always going to be problematic but a lot of work has been and is being done upstream.

No download connection. Maybe there is a torrent?

No torrent. ABF has been up and down last few days. Try again until you get connection. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Probably but I do not know how. Developers install systems from a “minimal” ISO which is all cli so there must be a way.

For that or any additional problems you might want to go to #openmandriva @ Freenode IRC so we can get you directly in touch with developers.

Also ABF seems working again so this should work now.

Downloaded. Does not work. And now a dark screen at the start for about a minute. Here’s a new log.

More precisely, a dark screen after selecting a menu item, about a minute.

Both distro have some kind of driver /usr/lib64/libXvMCnouveau.so

And in this folder it is not: /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/

That is worth asking about based on this:

(**) ModulePath set to "/usr/lib64/xorg/extra-modules,/usr/lib64/xorg/modules,/usr/lib/xorg/extra-modules,/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
...
(EE) Failed to load module "nouveau" (module does not exist, 0)

The nouveau module files are what you mention in /usr/lib64 (there are several iterations of that) and otherwise in /usr/lib64/dri/. So I have no idea why Xorg is looking in /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/. I’m wondering if there is a missing symbolic link or something. Edit: To me looks like the modules are there but not in the directory where Xorg is looking.

I posted a question on IRC so we should find out.

There should be driver nouveau_drv.so in folder /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/.
I found such a driver in x11-driver-video-nouveau-1.0.14-3-omv2015.0.x86_64.rpm.
The system sees it, but does not load it, because it is of a different version. We need to find the corresponding version.

This is how it works in Mandriva 2010 x86.

No that won’t work. Packages don’t always work independently they use other packages and especially library packages (lib, lib64). 2015 is Lx 3 and would be to out of date. Plus the nouveau package is on the ISO. It is not missing it just won’t work with your hardware. Also the drivers being in /usr/lib64/dri is not new or unusual they have been there for some time. The Intel drivers are in the same directory and they work.

A far as I know this is something specific to your hardware.

You’ll need to go on IRC and talk directly to developers, I can not help with this.

Post-edit: There is a developer looking at this. At this time OM developers do not understood why you are having this problem.

@Luser248 this is a guess. But could you try as a boot paramater adding:

systemd.setenv=GPUMOD=nouveau

(Crossing fingers. :upside_down_face: )

Does not work. There is no driver.

I found the driver here: x11-driver-video-nouveau-1.0.16-1-omv4000.x86_64.rpm
But it still doesn’t work. Probably also need the “nv” driver. What is it?
