Linux Related Content on "non-google" Platforms, no google, just right

I also suggest if you can’t flash it yourself, just buy from Brax. He has a great selection of de-Googled phones.

I would not buy anything from Brax. Besides reports of his phones not shipping in a timely manner if at all, I don’t consider him to be that knowledgeable about security or privacy. Others are free to do what they want with their money.

Fair enough - I bought my used OnePlus 9Pro on Ebay for ~240 dollars last August to upgrade my five year old 6T.

I’m knowledgeable in tech, and planned to eventually install Legion on it. May also try PostMarketOS.

Right now, it is completely de-googled using the steps I detailed above.

Also happy using Vaultwarden (self-hosted Bitwarden server with all the paid features included). My Vaultwarden runs in a Docker container and is available to all my devices via Tailscale and Nginx Reverse Proxy. There’s just one .json file to back up, and if my server ever dies, I can either pull a copy of that file from backup, or export a copy from one of my devices and re-import it into a new Docker instance of the server.

Lately, I’ve been using Neostore and have really enjoyed it. Super easy to activate extra repos and it looks worlds better than fdroid, lol.

I’ve thought about using vaultwarden. It’s wonderful how great opensource software can be implemented. Gotta love docker. I recently transitioned them over to rootless–it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

I think the bottom line here is–we have so many options now, it is worlds easier to create one’s own ecosystem and be absolutely independent of google, microsoft, or any other “big-tech” conglomerate that doesn’t really care about us. That’s one reason why I am loving OMLx. It’s the best distro I’ve been on. I started back … well, I won’t say, but it was not fun! lol.

Rumble’s biggest problem is it’s content. 75% right leaning politics and the remaining 25% of content is divided with gaming, music and brain dead content. Linux and open source is on there but the latest ones that you can find other than SwitchedtoLinux (who live streams on there Thursday and Fridays) is typically 2-3 yrs old.

I’ve got 3 channels on Rumble and 1 on YouTube. Been on Rumble for barely a year and those 3 channels have 28 subscribers. On YouTube been there since 2019 and have 266 subscribers. I didnt get any subscribers until 2022. The first year of Rumble I’ve gotten more subscribers than the first 3 yrs on YouTube.
But to be fair I’m not interested in growing on any of the platforms. Lol.
I just want to make something cause it’s fun and put it out there to see if anybody likes it. If they dont, thats their problem not mine. I make content for me because its fun to do. I’m not the “influencer” type of person.

On my youtube channel ive got -500 subscribers and i post my contact info so people can talk to me directly, and some of the people that use alternative front ends message me that way
They sometimes ask me to upload to other platforms and i tell them if they can agree on a platform to upload to ill do it, but they all use different platforms

@UnkleBonehead @waffles whoa, guys, what are your channels? Can you post links to your channels here? Preferably the Rumble ones? Youtube if that’s all you have, @waffles lol

Youtube@RealWaffles

I do have a rumble but as of now i havent uploaded to it, i may start mirroring to it eventually as some of my friends do

Sorry for no link im not allowed to link

You may be able to DM him a link, but I cannot verify that.

If you want to find me it’s pretty easy to do since I’m UnkleBonehead on pretty much every platform on the internet. I’m not gonna spam links here on the forums cause

  1. Im not a douchey person that wants to make every place about me.
  2. Im not all that interested in gaining an audience. I do stuff cause its fun to do and I learn something at the same time.

You’re right! You are pretty easy to find. Your PopOS review was good, and funny, lol. Thank you for:

  1. Being respectful.
  2. Letting Linux be what it is!

Thank you.
I got a lot of crap for that one and any of the Ubuntu ones. Lol.

Those are the two things that so many in the Linux community will throw out really fast.
Respect that other people are people and Linux is not just it’s own thing but you can make it be whatever you want or need it to be to your specific situation.

People now a days cant seem to see either one of those two thing coexisting at the same time. Lol.

So true. Those companies sold us a fairy tale of how affordable, secure, and private their cloud services were, and that it was in our best interest to move our personal data off our own computers and into their clouds. Well, the reality is that it’s not affordable, not secure, and certainly not private.
