I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the zenver1 variation is for AMD CPUs. That’s really the only difference that I’m aware of between that and the regular x86.64 version.
znver1 is optimized for amd ryzen cpu’s only, will not run on intel or older amd. Other than that it is the same thing.
I’m running it on my daily driver mini PC and a laptop and I’ve had no issues with either.
A Framework 16 with a Ryzen™ 7 7840HS CPU and AMD Radeon™ RX 7700S GPU.
And a Beelink SER5 MAX Mini PC with a AMD Ryzen 7 6800U CPU and integrated AMD Radeon 680M GPU.
Thank you very much so I will go exactly with this version im on ryzen 5600g so it is right system or to be precise arch for me
Thank you for the reply
@LeeTalbert and @all
When I start up zen installer goes advanced / manual partitioning, i see no potion to tell the installer NOT to format a partition. The thing is I want to mount my old home to a new system.
Question is, it even possible with zenver or my only option is full fresh install.
I know i can work around this by installing system, then add my home manually by fstab edition. But it would be nice if I could avoid that
Assuming you already have separate root and home partitions, you will have to format the root partition. If you don’t have separate partitions already then I’m not sure if you can do what you’re asking without a complete drive format.
Yes i have a separate / /home The thing is if I use regularx64 iso there is a point when you can tell the installer whenever you want or not to format the partition there is no such option in zenver
I just make rsync bacup just to be safe
From my memory so if I get anything wrong here please correct me:
znver1
is literally a repository. The packages are x86_64 packages built with some different compiler flags optimized for AMD cpus built since 2017 or ‘Zen’ cpu’s. Depending on how one uses their computer there may be a 3-5% performance boost. Most ordinary non power users probably will notice little of no difference.
My understanding is that if you do a lot of software compiling, video/audio editing, scientific usage, or basically anything that does high cpu usage or does a lot of calculations this would make a difference to you.
From ROME Release Notes (Rock/6.0 Release Notes say the same):
Available ISO files:
- x86_64 KDE Plasma desktop full featured (includes the most common used functionalities, multimedia and office software).
- znver1 KDE Plasma desktop: is for AMD CPUs (newer than 2017), notably for current AMD processors (Ryzen, ThreadRipper, EPYC), that outperforms the generic (x86_64) version by taking advantage of new features in those processors. znver1 is for the listed processors (Ryzen, ThreadRipper, EPYC) only, do not install on any other hardware.
Note: For practical purposes in OMLx x86_64
and znver1
are considered different architectures or arches where in reality znver1
is a modification on x86_64
.
Sorry for bothering all of you! Author @grafi is either blind or should sleep more. Everything where should be, when you first edit the partition. When you go back to edit partition just to check if you checked proper options then the menu list format - save partition as is will be hidden.
Once again apologies for completely unnecessary post
