I have an Acer CB3-532 Chromebook I have unlocked and I have installed a couple of different Linux distros on it and almost everyone have worked fine.
I would really like to install Openmandriva Rome on it as my daily driver from now on. But the keyboard is not working at all in the live environment installation iso.
I am trying to install Rome plasma slim.
Is it possible to get it working so I can install it? I would really appreciate if someone could help me.

If you can install other LInux OSâs then you should be able to install OMLx ROME. That box should have 4GB RAM and 32GB storage which is enough. Architecture is x86_64.
Evidence. When you made your post there should have been a template requesting some information on problem solving, we need that. All of it.
What ROME iso have you tried? Is it X11 or Wayland? Is keyboard wireless or wired? We donât know where to begin with problem solving without more information.
I donât know if there might be some problem with the kbd on Acer Chromebooks? If it works with other Linux distros it should be fixable once we know what to fix.

Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel HD graphics 400
It works fine with Debian and Arch based distros.
One picture from Openmandriva live and one from Lmde 7 thatâs installed at the moment.
I hope I have provided something usefull.
First I am a user that helps other users, I am not a developer. Why that matters? If I canât help find a solution there are people around that know more or different things than I do.
Itâs a start. The problem you describe could be a missing kernel module needed for your hardware. So we would want to first try a newer kernel and see if we get lucky and that works. Or maybe switching the Graphics Platform from X11 to Wayland. The 24.12 iso is from last December so rather old.
So several suggestions.
With your current iso or one of the new ones at the Grub Menu there is a line for âKeyboard Layoutsâ. You could try setting that to US English or other as appropriate. Does not seem like it should be necessary but we might get lucky.
Try a newer iso which would have a newer kernel:
Those isos may have a few problems noted here but all have workarounds as noted. If one of them boots to a black screen try switching what we call the tty using Ctrl>Alt>Fx keys. Graphical display is usually at Ctrl>Alt>F1 or Ctrl>Alt>F2. Yes the issues with these isos have been reported to developers and they should get fixed soonish. We are a small group so we do sometimes need a bit of time to get things done.

We are not them. Chromebooks run some fork of Gentoo, if I remember correctly. You could potentially install it, but it would require similar methods to install other distros.

If that were the case the keyboard would be functional. But it isn't.

It's not longer a chromebook. ChromeOs is wiped and I can istall what I want.

I have installed Garuda, CachyOs, Manjaro, Arch (i think), CuerdOs, Linux Mint, Lmde, Debian, Ubuntu, Devuan and probably some more and none of them have any problem.
So saying we are not them is not at all helpfull.
We arenât Debian or Arch, so I canât really speak for what works and what doesnât. When I say âit would require similar methods,â Iâm saying your journey will not be straightforward. Most Chromebooks need help getting other distros installed. We also donât have a bunch of Chromebooks laying around to test every possible install on them.

We are not them. We outline several times in the forum and chat that we are not other distros, nor are we based on other distros. We donât make (or steal) the money other distros make. So passive aggressive isnât very helpful, either.
We donât ship the same versions of software. We donât bloat the installs with every possible hardware device you could ever purchase. None of us is employed to build this distro. Itâs a volunteer project that is provided to you at no cost.
I suggest if itâs critical to you that OM be installed on that device then you should try to help get it working by providing more than, âit works with every other distro.â Otherwise, feel free to use a distro that already works.

I have a couple of other computers that I can try to get it running on.
I will try to get it running on my main pc the day I have the means to get a better graphics card. There is something with my my current one and Kde that donât get along. It freezes.

If itâs an nvidia card and you are using wayland, this can happen. Especially with the nouveau driver. Most other cards work out of the box with the exception of some intels.
Itâs an Nvidia and an old one at that.
To old for using with the newer drivers.
I know the feeling. I had GTX 560âs and 960âs that were perfectly fine still.
On the Acer, have you tried an external keyboard? If that works, then itâs probably a kmod we donât ship with the live disk. I would suggest a full disk and not the Slim just to rule out any differences that may exist between the two, as @ben79 already suggested. Use the X11 version first since it will be more stable.

I am downloading them on two of my slowest laptops at the moment (one is the one I am writing this from that is a 20 year old Dell Latitude D531) because my stationary is off at the moment.

Yeah, thatâs an old one. None of the proprietary drivers we have are going to work with it.
It could possibly be the keyboard selected in the system settings. I donât know if the live image ships with openssh server running on it. You could at least run commands remotely on it. The other option would be to run a known good live distro and collect the output of lsusb to see if you can get a model of the keyboard along with lsmod to see what kmods might be loaded.
The wayland version does not work with the laptop keyboard but usb keyboard work.
I will update regarding the X11 version.

I have thought about ssh but I have not done it in years so that is a problem for tomorrow.
The X11 version is the same as Wayland.
The laptop keyboard donât work but the usb does.
No change when I change the language layout in Grub menu.
I am thinking of installing it now when I have the Usb keyboard working and hoping for the best that the driver or what the problem is gets fix in the installation.
If not then itâs back to installing something else.

By the way. I saw something in the line with i8042 no controller found flashing by when I booted the Live usb.
I searched on it and it seems to have something with the keyboard to do.
