How do I remove KDE Plasma Desktop?

Greetings,

How do I remove the KDE Plasma Desktop and its dependencies from my system in it’s entirety and install a different DE such as XFCE?

I am using OpenMandriva ROME.

Thank you kindly.

Talk about doing things the hard way.

I would start over and install ROME Plasma6 slim and install XFCE on that.

sudo dnf in task-xfce

and maybe you would want some of the other packages in this list:

task-xfce.noarch : Metapackage for the xfce desktop environment
task-xfce-devel.noarch : xfce development metapackage
task-xfce-minimal.noarch : Minimal dependencies needed for xfce desktop
task-xfce-plugins.noarch : Metapackage for the xfce panel plugins

I would guess that task-xfce would automatically pull task-xfce-minimal. Then use it for a few days and be sure all is working. I would not know how to uninstall Plasma6. You could ask developers at OM-Chat.

XFCE isos are available but it requires a workaround to boot the installed system now. If what you want is XFCE I would do that.

Hi Ben,

I didn’t see any XFCE iso’s from the OpenMandriva ROME downloads page or else I would have used it. What workaround is required to boot the installed system from that ISO? Thanks.

ROME Plasma6 iso

After installation when you see Grub2 Menu go to Advanced Options>Console Mode, select that. At the prompt login as user and type startxfce4.

@AngryPenguin is working on this. I expect it will be fixed, but he is busy and has a lot of projects so patience.

Awesome, thank you very much. :+1:

For info for you and all users:

If you go to openmandriva.org select the Download button, select Spins you get to this:

Read this text, all of it! This was written for a reason.

Scroll down to:

All users please note that the primary focus of OpenMandriva at this time is Plasma6 then Gnome and LXQt. That is due to resource allocation not lack of desire. Of the others listed there XFCE isos will work with the workaround posted above. Do not know about Mate. Currently Cinnamon, and Budgie do not work.

It is reasonable to use ROME Gnome or ROME LXQt for production, ROME LXQt should be regarded as Beta. Any of the rest of this is Alpha.

Edit: I just noticed that @AngryPenguin posted this workaround for Cosmic iso.

I cheated a bit and copied the above post to a new thread here. I thought it was important to make that information readily available and obvious to all.

Good move :+1:
Added to Newcomers Tips list.

I found it following the “Spins” menu. It’s great, by the way!
