Hi All,
As a lot are on here, I too am a lunduke refugee finding a safe haven from the mind virus that has no business in i.t. Having spend years researching why this is happening, I have an automatic repulse that makes me run a mile from it. Thank you to the openmandriva team for speaking up. I was an arch user until the broadcat by lunduke last week on arch. Now im openmandriva and will not use anything else now. In my view silence=complicity in my view and those distros that stay silent through this are no longer worth bothering with.
Openmandriva is a good os, no shadow of a doubt and I expect good things in the future.
If the devs are reading this, I would appreciate it if you can put grub-btrfs in the repositories as I know the dev of that package reached out to yee to stick it up there. I would be very grateful if you could do this.
Additionally I would like to see a version of the os released that contains the least amount of packages associated with individuals who are vocal in their divide and conquer.
For those who are getting an error when booting from usb stating something is enabled and stopping the boot to live media, sorry cant remember the exact error, the answer is your usb drive is broken. I got this and tried a different usb and it loaded and installed fine.
I generally dont sign up to sites for privacy sake and I see the agenda but could not resist the bravery of openmandriva for doing what theey did.
Welcome! I’m glad you’ve decided to join us.
I’ve also put in a package request for you.
Welcome! We are glad you are here. I had a boss who would ask a question in meetings and follow it up with. “Speak your peace now, because silence is consent.” You don’t have to wave any flags or tic any boxes to use OpenMandriva. We just don’t see where it has any relevance.
I put in a package request for grub-btrfs 3 weeks ago and it is “In Progress”
Thank you, really appreciate it.
I guess I should close the one I just put in
Thank you Wilson for that, hope it passes QA soon with the team. It does not have any relevance at all and unfortunately im at the front line working in one of those technocracies too which makes it worse. I see the destruction in real time and to see it in open source, it really is sad to see but at the same time I see why things happen the way they do. So much has been explained in the last couple of weeks. Im just hoping kde are not following the same thing too. My main thing is to see that there is a filter like you guys protecting end users as I see opinions of divide and conquer can lead to nefarious behaviours from individuals who can send malicious packages if the feeling takes them and cause immeasurable damage to the open source community. That is worrying indeed. Yee are doing a great job and you have my confidence which is the backbone of any distro in my view. Really is sad to see certain dev community members exhibit so much lack of integrity, self respect and common decency which is sadly missing in our world today. I know the intent is to destroy open source but frankly it is an impossible task with people like yee in the world.
It would take a dedicated team to curate packages that would exclude packages from those infected with the mind virus. And, to be honest, that might even cause the exclusion of the kernel.
OpenMandriva does, however, offer the Slim version of OMLx. Just as it sounds, it has many fewer packages than the full version and is intended for users who plan on installing packages on their own.
Welcome to OpenMandriva! We’re glad you found us.
Yes im aware of this, it is by no means an easy task by any stretch of the imagination which is why a minimalist approach would be best but to be considered as a long term approach. I by no means consider this a quick or easy thing. I am fully aware of linus being bought unfortunately and he has gotten into bed with the wrong people which is why I will be watching russias announced forking of the linux kernel with great interest.
They work through requests in the order they are received, so this one is being worked on now. It is relevant to us, because we are working on getting snapshots to show up in Grub and work with Snapper or Timeshift. It’s a big deal.
Thanks Wilson, appreciate it. You can never be sure because other distros will flat out not do it, no point in naming any of them as im sure you already know yourself. Can’t wait for it tbh, it is a super handy tool indeed despite the origins of btrfs. Unfortunately I had a very specific set of expectations from my distro which weirdly went out the door after lundukes video. Now im just grateful I found this distro. Integrity has a funny way of changing ones perspective.
This is a small distro. It has stood the test of time, due to the people who are here. Like you, I came here from Lunduke.com and I fell in love with the place. I am recently retired, and decided to become part of the family and donate my time to a worthy project. I don’t think it will be a wasted effort.
I can see why, you can actually be normal here. I admire you, wish I was retired…lol. I think it will be successful now. I know it may not seem it right now but there are alot of people with integrity out there who will move based on the belief system of the people behind a distro but there are so many out there who dont know how to move or even aware there is any issue at all.
I often say Linux is Linux. Open the boxes and they all look the same on the inside. The community is the only thing that really makes a difference. A lot of people are finding OpenMandriva right now and they like what they see here.
We encourage our users to file bug reports and package requests. They are so important to this distro.
Exactly. This place is filled with just normal nerds. Like me, like you. It’s a relief to find a place such as this. I am also a Lunduke refugee.
Exactly, why put anything else into it, we all have our personal views, why poison something good with politics yunno. I love a distro with good aesthetics and i must say, this distro is top notch. Its so well presented, like a candy box with bows and ribbons. My only complaint about it is that the openmandriva logo was not set on the launcher on the task manager, i obviously did it myself and it looks great. I will use that because I want riseup vpn next. It is a great vpn with no signup and there is no native way to install it in this distro.
That is the way it should be too, I was once on another distro forum and got a reply that they did not like the words I used to make my point. I was praising the distro…lol. After this, i removed their distro. I dont need word or thought police yunno.
Welcome
Welcome to OM!
For the grub-btrfs situation, someone else wrote up this guide. I followed everything step-by-step, and it works perfectly for me
I’m not sure if you typically use timeshift or snapper, as I know that both programs are a bit different. This is specifically for timeshift, but I’m sure you could get it to work with snapper if you need to.
Thank you.
Exactly what i was looking for, thank you. Yes I do use timeshift. This is brilliant. Just need to reinstall now with btrfs…lol. Thank you.
