XFCE appears to be heading for disaster. Not that it matters to me. I never cared for it.
How long until other desktop environments choose to throw out reality and to go full Woke with Rust? LXQT? LXDE? MATE?
All of this is politically related to what is happening in Minnesota, Georgia, and other states. My opinion only.

Its just so tiresome. I truly feel for the communities that run distros like OMLx that give people choices. These assholes are making more work for the little guys who want nothing to do with this woke BS, and they’re doing it intentionally.
How I loath them.
As far as Minneapolis is concerned, well, armed man with a history of fighting cops, carries a gun (a Sig p320, at that) with a chambered round when he decides to get in a fist-fight with heavily armed troopers, and winds up getting shot. Big surprise.

Their intent is to cause as much chaos as they can. I am starting to wonder if they are being paid by the Big Tech Big Three, Microsoft, Google, and Apple. It would not surprise me if they are paying the Woke to destroy everything.
I keep a close eye on Minneapolis. A brother is living in one of the suburbs. I was happy when I heard that Maple Grove, a suburb, wasn’t putting up with any clown show “protests.” Thankfully, his daughters, my nieces, are living in a different state, far enough away from the orchestrated chaos. I told him last year that he should sell the house and move. He will never live long enough to see those oak trees he planted mature into shade trees.
“But he is a nurse!” according to my TDS infected neighbor, a nurse. That is funny, and not in a humorous way. I didn’t hear her scream when Laken Riley, a nursing student, was taken out by a killer who was a known criminal. All I heard from her was crickets. The medical community needs to clean up its act and clear out the mentally unstable from their ranks. Every day I see reports of more medical “professional” people infected with TDS.
The medical community is proving something that I always believed. Going to a university does not make anyone smart. You can send a psychopath to a university. The psychopath comes out with a fancy piece of paper that says “educated.” He is still going to be a psychopath.
I always found it amazing how many truck drivers would agree with that statement at truck stops and loading docks. It was 100% in agreement twenty years ago. The older I became as the older drivers retired, that 100% turned into 90%. Then 80%, and so on. Today, if I said that in a truck stop, there is a good chance I would be killed by some unqualified to drive illegal for saying that, assuming he understood what I was saying.

He should have just left the gun home and grabbed his first aid kit. Assuming he was really a nurse. The more I think about it, the more he sounds like a DEI hire. Someone who didn’t work to achieve his position, but instead, checked all the boxes as determined by the Woke Agenda.
President Trump is doing everything that I voted for, and then some. Of course, the “and then some” part is those parts which were recently exposed. I am not going to complain when he bypasses some things such as the “Epstein Files.” It is obvious by now that this corruption runs much deeper than one man’s island and is far more spread out than anyone imagined.
If President Trump needs a bigger wrecking ball, just ask the real American people. We are at the point where we are willing to give him one. If I find out that I have more neighbors that don’t like it, too bad for them. Next time, try to cheat harder. That is, if there is a next time available to cheat.
It is possible that we may be witnessing the beginning of the end of the corruption. I heard that if redistricting happens, the corrupt will lose so much control that any filibuster attempts won’t even matter. So many RINO congressmen are retiring that the Republican Party could become the Republican Party again, instead of the controlled fake opposition run by the globalists.
By the way, most people don’t know this, but the filibuster is not in the Constitution. It was created by Congress. It can be deleted at any time as quickly as it was created. One round of votes is all it takes.

That’s the whole plan. Corporations ‘compete’ by destroying competitors. They don’t want efficiency and useability they want open source and independent devs wiped off the earth and everything coded by AI and even the code checked by AI so no human sees what’s going on. I am sure it’s because that way they can stuff in all the monitoring and backdoors they want without anyone figuring it out. And if you try to look at the assembly for rust it’s basically impossible and it changes daily anyhow so they can flip a switch any time they like and compromise anything they like.

A couple months back I was driving to town on the interstate, very little traffic… noticed an 18-wheeler coming up behind me, going slightly faster than me, steady but probably wouldn’t pass me because he was obviously loaded (crosswind blowing hard enough you could tell) and he should be going into the weigh station. Well, he ducked the weigh station and kept gaining on me. And gaining. And gaining. Until he was right behind me (like, one car length), and I decided he was going to hit me and switched lanes. (I was in the F350, it’s not like he couldn’t see me from miles away. And he had a whole empty lane if he wanted to pass me.)
He just eased on past…. and I nipped in behind to get his plate, because that truck is clearly on autopilot. NO LICENSE PLATE. Amazon trailer, 3rd party carrier, did get the trailer ID number and reported to the highway patrol, for whatever good that did.
Never liked it either, still hate to see it.
A few years back over on the PCLOS forum I was muttering about how slow XFCE was compared to our other DEs (same distro under it, so apples to apples), and turns out I wasn’t the first to observe that, and the complaint had previously been taken to the XFCE folks. Who responded that they didn’t have enough manpower to optimize it.
Umm… if you’re that shorthanded, how do you have the resources to rewrite what’s already working in a language that’s a moving target??

That is a very good question. Almast whole linux let say ecosystem turning itself in to a shit show in to a dumpsterfire.If Open mandriva fall for any reason I will flea to some kind of bsd. Not because Im such a hipster, Im to old for that “my system is better than yours BS”, but because BSD guys are trying to stay proffesional regardless of their political views and affiliations.

And beyond the political bullshit and the Cult of Rust (and whatever Rust’s merits, it’s not just magically better) there’s the huge problem that all this rewriting-in-Rust on top of the flux caused by the ecosystem mostly-switching to systemd and Wayland (I have no problem with either, but like all new things the switch was disruptive just from a technical standpoint) – all that necessarily introduces new bugs and new instabilities, and making a whole bunch of changes one atop the next compounds that, so how exactly can linux continue to claim technical superiority if ordinary users struggle with getting it to run stable? because that’s what will happen if they keep this up.
It’s to where I’ve heard even longtime linux users muttering that Windows is looking like the stable choice, because at least it has to make enterprise business happy so can’t afford to be entirely a shitshow in a dumpsterfire for the sake of woke politics.

That is very common among some drivers. If they have a PrePass in the truck, it is legal.
What is a PrePass?
A transponder that goes on the windshield and tells the driver with colored LED lights and audio sound sequences if the driver is cleared to bypass the scale. Getting one depends on the safety rating of the company that owns the truck. I doubt any company pulling for Amazon qualifies. The transponder does one other task. It handles the tolls on any toll road that uses EZ-Pass or I-Pass (Illinois Tollway Authority), eliminating the need for a second transponder. Unless in Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma, because they have their own system.
In an F350, no matter what you had under the hood, you should have been easily able to punch it and get out of his way. At least that is what I would have done, especially if I couldn’t move over. Where I live, moving over is not always an option because the lane is heavily occupied with traffic.
If he had hit you from behind, depending on which state you are in and the circumstances, he would be 100% liable. In Illinois, rear ending someone is always the fault of the driver performing the rear ending, unless it can be proven that the driver in front did a brake check to harass the truck driver or collect from insurance (fraud).
That happened to me in Atlanta. A driver of a Chrysler brake checked me to do insurance fraud, and I dented the back of his car. He had no insurance, no valid registration, and no license to drive. He claimed his back was messed up until the officer started asking me questions, when he suddenly jumped out of his car and started screaming at me, jumping up and down. But his “back was messed up.” Got it. Not a good look. The court threw him out. Twice. In two states.
Given that it was an Amazon third party company driver, the driver is what we called a “Derka-Derka.” It is slang among American and Canadian drivers for an illegal driver who got his license illegally, most likely from California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, or New York. Just like in the old days of CB radios, when a “chicken coop” was a scale house, a “smokey” or a “bear” was any law enforcement, and “McChoke’N’Puke” was any fast food place, stuck inside a truck stop or not. Technology changes. Slang changes. But some slang never changes.
The Amazon trailer indicates a third-party company driver pulling for Amazon. No plate is on Amazon and the driver. Amazon provides the registration plate. But it is up to the driver to check the plate to make certain that it is attached when connecting to the trailer and at every stop when doing a walk-around safety check. Who gets the ticket? The driver gets one. Amazon gets another.
One exception. If Amazon gives the driver a registration card for the trailer, which the driver carries in the truck with the bill of lading, showing Amazon has taken recent corrective action and the replacement plate is in the mail.
I had to do that several times with the company I was driving for. Mostly because the rivets holding the plate in place had suffered from too much road cancer after 10 years of annual winter. Royal pain before tablets. I had to go to the warehouse office, explain the situation, and have them give me their fax number so my company could then fax me a copy of the registration. Years later, when I had a tablet with me, I could have the registrations and permits department email it to me. It could then show it to the CMV enforcement officer on the tablet. By then we were on E-Logs and the CMV enforcement officers had to comply with electronic data, as much as they hated it. I guess CMV officers loved spending two hours digging through logbooks (comic books for some drivers) and permit books (funny pages for some drivers).

Oh yeah, I could have, it’ll go like a bat out of hell (it’s a 7.5L gas), but when I’m the slower vehicle I expect the truck to pass me, and I don’t want to get in his way if he suddenly decides to do that, which I’ve had happen and had to dash back into the slow lane. Would certainly be his liability here, but I like my truck way more than that.
We have pre-pass… I see ‘em pass the scales all the time and normally would assume that, but decided maybe not after the demo of asleep-at-the-wheel. Trailer didn’t look like it had ever had a plate, no mount in evidence. That’s extremely rare here.

Had some jerkwad try to brake-check me in the Bay area at midnight, obvious intent to generate a Fraud when there was zero other traffic and four vacant lanes to choose from. I was in the old truck pulling a trailer. But I had better brakes than he did, and after his 3rd or 4th try I dropped to 35mph, and the jerkwad gave it up and sped off.
I got a no-boot from OpenIndiana, boot but no-install from whatever was the first of the “friendly” BSDs, and tho … GhostBSD? installed, it froze up immediately and that was that. Middle-aged hardware, so there went that excuse. I’ve become accustomed to whatever-linux working on whatever-hardware, so wasn’t what I’d expected!
Getting back to XFCE and Rust, I came to the conclusion that it would be far more efficient and would produce far better results if they switched over to the old Pythonizer language that was used with Windows 3.1 to create a Complete Waste Of Time. That was the one using concepts developed by Terry Jones, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, and Michael Palin. Graham Chapman helped out as a ghostwriter, I understand.
If the programmers at XFCE refuse, I recommend subjecting them to the Spanish Inquisition or forcing them to eat “Spam eggs Spam and Spam.”

Another embarrassing video from Lunduke. Rust is political yes, but in the end it’s also just a programming language that people can prefer. I don’t see how Wayland is political, it works better for me than Xorg does and Xlibre/Phoenix are not finished yet. He laughs at Xfce going political while providing no evidence that that is the motivation here.
You think Apple and Google are paying people to use Rust instead of their own Swift and Go/Dart/Carbon?…
Speaking for myself, I simply do not trust the people pushing Rust and Wayland to have the best interests of the users in mind, and they certainly want to remove choices. This is proven when hearing the words of folk like Herbst, Petridish, etc.
You can trust them If you like, but for myself, and no doubt many others, that trust does not exist, and with good reason.
Lunduke may engage in hyperbole, but his reports are accurate, and, IMHO, making little jabs at him speaks more to where you are coming from than it does about him.
No, the push for rust comes from the government (it is DARPA), and that is the first thing. Read about it; there is a lot of official documentation describing those move.
Secondly, there is a huge concentration of zealots/lunatics in the Rust community. Useful idiots are useful regardless of the community they are in.
Thirdly, the language itself is quite new and therefore not well tested, yet it is being pushed into the wild like crazy.
It is impossible to decompile code that has been compiled, and that is a huge red flag.
The compiler is not stable and is evolving basically every day. This is a bad thing for everyone.
Let me say that loud and clear. I’m not opposed to Rust! I neither hate nor love it. Like any other language, it has its advantages and flaws. The flaws should be addressed before it is adopted on a large scale. Make it damn stable at last! Period.
PS. Is there any need fo rewrite perfectly good codebase to something else just for a sake of it. Instead of removing flaws of the existing one. Where is the logic in that.
