Crypto Donation?

I just started using OpenMandriva, I’m impressed! Glad to see all the other new people are being (mostly) civil. I do have one suggestion though: Add an option to donate cryptocurrency. Crypto donations are great because they require no credit/debit card, no account, and (sometimes) no taxes. It seems like OpenMandriva is attracting an entirely new userbase thanks to a popular YouTube video, and I think many new users would gladly give a donation in crypto. Just to sweeten the pie a little, I promise to donate $25 in BTC if you implement this. While you’re at it, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Bitcoin Cash, and XRP are other good popular options to add. You can easily convert all of those back to USD for a small fee on an exchange, buy hardware off Newegg directly, or buy gift cards/mastercards for misc. expenses.

Those are just my recommendations as a new user. I’m switching from Debian 12 to OpenMandriva on my ThinkPad P16s by the way

Welcome! We are glad to have you here.

Use the Welcome app. It is really important.

What is the welcome app?

The Welcome App has a “Donation” button (for lack of a better word) which opens the web page. All fine and good. However, this doesn’t address the point made by @TheMultiminer as far as I can tell. Crypto donations are extremely easy, anonymous, and involve no third party middle-men such as Paypal or other payment services. Official wallet addresses can be posted in a thread by the appropriate forum admin(s) for a variety of crypto currencies. I’m willing to send US$50 in BTC…

It started automatically when you installed the OS. If you just deleted it and moved on, it is under Utilities.

Welcome is the ONLY safe way to install repos. It does a lot more. Unlike most distros’ welcome, ours is a big deal. It is makes many things 1 click with no chance of mistakes.

Ok, I saw that. I thought that was something on the forum. I agree with the points Dave brings up. If we want OpenMandriva to continue with its current goals, there should at least be an option to use cryptocurrency, as it is extremely censorship resistant. I understand you may not have the authority to approve/deny this, but I think this could help out a lot if you brought it up to someone who could approve it. It would only take 1 hour at most if you wanted to do some nice CSS on the website. I saw a post from about 5 years ago on the thread that said BTC donations were “coming soon”, but I assume that was suspended during the crypto winter of 2019 and COVID shortly after. Now that BTC has hit over $100,000, it has once again entered the public eye, and it will continue to be used by tech nerds inbetween the “Winters” and “Springs”.

I am new here and have no input as to how OMLx handles donations. I do understand that they are not in the U.S. and that has something to do with it. It is a small distro, but lately it is growing. Growth brings changes.
