If you do some distro hopping and try all the different desktop environments and window managers, you can soon become “at home” with any setup. It seems distro hopping isn’t as popular s it once was, probably because of the political ideological warfare that has invaded the maker space. Tread carefully these days.
I personally how reliant on web technologies Gnome is. To me this seems like too much overhead for things that should be striving to be as low memory and efficient as possible. KDE has a lot of stuff under the tank for you to use, but it does seem to run a bit more efficiently.
I always thought GNOME had memory issues. I started with GNOME2 and when everything switched to GNOME3 the issues started. I have no idea if the problem is solved but I do recall that GNOME3 stripped functionality out and packaged even the most basic function as a plugin. I switched to Linux Mint during the shift from 2 to 3 because Mint was still using GNOME2 and forked it into Cinnamon. I also hated having to install 5 or 6 plugins after the fact just to add basic functions I expected to be there.
You hit the nail on the head. When GNOME3 was introduced, everything started down the road to hell and it’s not getting any better.
I keep saying that Gnome has stripped so much functionality that when I tried to run it, the os and all of their programs leave me feeling like I got stuck at the kids’ table on thanksgiving and got handed a happy meal when I want a plate of the good stuff.
That’s about the best description… Along comes Gnome3 and I could not figure out how to do basic things. Then discovered those basic things no longer exist.
Here’s an interesting comparison chart:
The old version also has resource (RAM) use for the various DEs.
I wish I had a way to do an accurate head count of how many of us came here from watching Lunduke’s video.
Thank youuuuuu @bero for the WokeOS shell! I was wondering where I might find this It’s absolutely hilarious.
Good gravy @WilsonPhillips this thread has turned ginormous lol. I too would love to know how many are here because of Lunduke. You jumped in with both feet I see, I didn’t realize you had started only in January if I’m reading this thread correctly.
I’m here to stay as well though. It’s been a fantastic journey with OM so far.
Yes, 4 months today. This is home. I can’t afford to donate money, or I would do so. Instead, I donate my time.
Here it is:
wokeos.cpp.txt (4.6 KB)
Certainly not putting it on github or so, that could get the entire project banned.
Time is a precious commodity, highly valuable. I appreciate your kind welcomes and chatter from you and everyone. Seriously a breath of fresh air.
Bwahahah! Yes indeed, some inside jokes are better left inside I suppose
Create a new message thread in Coffee break, pin it to the top, and then on the main page, pin a message for those sent by Lunduke to sign in and say hello?
Just an idea. I suspect that thread would become massive.
That sounds like this thread.
There are people over at lunduke.com who have never posted here, but they are running OM.
In honor of this thread…
It had to be done. Take a look. SuperCute Penguins and OM Logo wallpapers
Hi everyone. I would love to use your distro, came not only from Lunduke, but also Darth SC from Linux Renaissance channel did a review on your distro. He is now using on his laptop. But I have a problem and can’t post it because I’m not allowed to post links and files on your forum.

Why is this happening? It’s supposed to be kind of spam protection I guess as I understand it, but I think you overdid it. I can’t even post a screenshot or video.
Welcome! We are glad to see you and hope you will make this your home.
@Sainosaur you should be able to do so now. Please start another thread in the support section of the forum, or it will get overlooked here.
Also, Lunduke.com subscriptions are 50% off until Friday. Grab one while they are on sale.
I paid right at $250 for my lifetime subscription. They are going for $100 right now. That is a steal.
7 more likes on the first thread of this post will hit 50 and I get a badge out of it.
