I tested this on a Rock/5.0 system. Would be great if other users could test this. Helps to eliminate mistakes and rewrite things if needed. Perhaps to rewrite so non-tech savvy users understand and so forth.
Reset root or user password
This is useful if one forgets a password or if one deletes the existing /etc/passwd
, /etc/shadow
, /etc/group
, or /etc/gshadow
during a dnf
transaction.
Off topic but worth repeating: If you see a dialog during a dnf up
or more likely a dnf dsync
transaction you do not want the new file you want to keep the existing file. These files contain usernames and passwords. Keep the existing file.
