Legally, California is screwed. Their own totalitarian government can’t even use the Internet. They would have to age verify every piece of hardware that keeps the Internet up and running. Everything has some sort of operating system.
Of course, hypocrisy never got in the way before. I am 100% certain they will just exempt themselves. Rules for thee, not for me.
Every business might as well leave California now. Beat the mad rush later. Assuming the business can find a legitimate moving company that meets all CARB regulations.
Perhaps OM needs to do the same. Just to keep it all legal up front for when the California lawyers show up.
Things get very interesting when this California law runs into the vintage computers. The old Commodores, Ataris, Apple IIs, Tandy Color Computers, Radio Shack Model I/IIIs, Timex Sinclairs, TI/99s, and so on. They don’t even know what time it is, never mind who is logged in.
I can see a herd of California government suits showing up to the 34th Annual Last Great Coco Fest in Carol Stream next month, just to start arresting anyone with a Coco 1, 2, or 3. Got a Coco 3 upgraded with 512 Kb of RAM and dual floppy disk drives? You are definitely getting hauled away in handcuffs for interrogation.
But the law doesn’t take effect until January!?!?
Since when does the Gestapo wait for a law to start?
I know from experience. I was targeted in California for driving a Freightliner Century in 2013. Never mind it met all California CARB regulations. It didn’t look like a Freightliner Cascadia, therefore it must not be legal because it is obviously a Century, while ignoring the fact that it had Cascadia emissions parts under the hood to make it legal. Good thing I had my permit book up to date, along with the manufacturer’s manuals and paperwork.
Toyota already told California that it won’t be selling any vehicles in California if those reality-challenged authoritarians demand that all vehicles sold must be souped-up electric golf carts. For California residents who want a Toyota, all they have to do is get a post office box in Nevada or Arizona and register the vehicle to that address.
Ford told California that it already lost too much money trying to build a souped-up electric golf cart that can’t haul anything and a souped up electric “sports car.” Nobody wants either one. I can go to any dealer and instantly get a “new” one, despite the fact it is already three years old. But I would be the first owner, therefore “new vehicle.”
I don’t expect California to change, until the state gets to be like the Soviet Union, economically speaking. Everything fell apart and the people driving the tanks turned the tanks around and went after the elites instead of the people.
I emailed the creator of MySword Bible app, and he told me he caved to Google. They gave their identification to Google.
I haven’t replied yet, I didn’t want to just reply in anger, but the guy clearly responded to Google in fear. And that’s what I fear with these state mandates coming - people will comply just like they did with the clot shot.
This is what we need to do to these authoritarian bullies, but only a few are going to.
People and Businesses need to leave before they can’t afford to. The next thing you can expect and not just from California but globally with this push toward more authoritarianism - they will implement exit taxes, making it impossible to leave.
California already has exit taxes. So far, those taxes are not working. It is difficult to get state exit taxes out of someone now living in Idaho or Texas. About all California can do is arrest the exit tax avoider if that person ever decides to visit relatives in California.
The Constitution prohibits the Federal government from telling a state what taxes it can or can’t have. It is a state’s rights issue. Something Canada’s government never has to deal with. However, other states don’t have to enforce California’s insane laws.
As for Google, they are in so deep with California. Just watch. Phones using Android will be first in line to comply because Google owns Android. In fact, there will be Android ads promoting it as a “child safety feature.” Marketing is already working on it over at Google.
On the other hand, I hear Apple is leaving for Texas because of the insane corporate taxes. Exit tax? Apple probably looks at that as a one time exit fee if its lawyers can’t eliminate it somehow. To Apple, the exit tax amounts to less than the value of one ISO container of iPhones falling off a Chinese container ship. Cost of doing business.
Yes, people with comply, with this latest California law, just as they did with the CCP DemPanic and the rat poison shots. Everyone I know who got more than two of those shots is now a Chicago cemetery voter. Never mind they never lived in Chicago and are not buried there. You can’t fix gullible.
Back in 1984 when I moved here because of work, within a week I became 100% convinced that 9 out of 10 people would drive 20 miles east of Algoma, WI on highway 54 if told to do so. You can check your map to see what I mean. I am still convinced the overwhelming majority would do that.
Agree - but it creates friction, and as we already see with System76 and in the recent past with Vax passes, most people go along to get along. I lived in CA for two years with my wife, then we moved to the south. We were underneath the exit tax threshold, but they tried saying I owed the DMV money for not having my car (which was now registered in my new state) insured in CA. To make sure it didn’t go to collections, I had to send them proof that my car was now registered in CA. I hate CA, I also lived in OR and WA. They all suck now, they’ve all been commufornicated.
As for Google, they are in so deep with California. Just watch. Phones using Android will be first in line to comply because Google owns Android.
No disagreement here either - when I saw in August that Google was removing the ability to sideload (I had already de-Googled the stock ROM) I was so angry, I immediately unlocked the bootloader and installed MurenaOS. - Kind of a cool side note there, I found out that the creator of that was involved with the original Mandrake software.
But yes, I expect like MySword, most devs will comply as they operate out of fear. And Google being so in bed with Govt, they had to know this system level ID req was coming. Apple already has shown their new OS will also have this idiocy in it.
Yes, Apple will comply with California, while moving operations to Texas. If Apple had any common sense, it would tell California to take its anti-privacy law and shove it up where the sun doesn’t shine. Then run an ad campaign showing how California is very much anti-privacy. Leverage the privacy groups against California.
Everyone says China is Communist. Why? They believe what they are told. However, if you take ten steps back and look at it, every Chinese corporation is sleeping in the bed with the Chinese Communist Party. Now that Carnival Worker Carney wants to copy China, that is where Canada is heading, if not there already. That is how I see where Canada is going to end up unless Carnival Worker Carney is removed.
All the big corporations would love to have the same situation in America. It is the small businessman who has to compete on an unfair playing field. Crony capitalists can simply cut a deal with government to destroy the small and medium businesses. This goes well beyond Big Tech and Big Energy. It is even happening in agriculture. The government picks winners (California) and losers (Midwest farmers). The only thing stopping California farmers is reality. They keep running out of water. They screamed quite loudly a few years ago when Los Angeles took the water. The Great Lakes Treaty, which is quite old and still enforced, doesn’t allow for states and provinces bordering the Great Lakes to export water to other places, such as Iowa, never mind California.
The treaty does allow for California to grab all the water it wants down by New Orleans after everyone else is finished with it. For some strange reason, California doesn’t was Mississippi Mud. Why is that?
China is still better than Canada. In China, you can still get rich with a good idea and some investment, and after you get rich there, the gov’t makes you an offer you can’t refuse. In Canada, you can’t get rich, because if you threaten any of the existing powers, you’ll get shut down. FFS, you can’t even change a fucking light-bulb for an old lady here without running afoul of the fucking unions.
Every single big corp here in Canada is in bed with the gov’t, be it conservative of Libtard, except of course for the energy sector, which out gov’t is trying to kill, and soon enough, the whole agri sector, like in Europe.
China is not as retarded as us, those assholes are smart, focused and ruthless, but at least they want to generate wealth.
I’d rather this place was run by the Chinese than the assholes who have been running this joint for the last 50 years.
You don’t see people living in fucking tent cities in 0 to -30 degree F weather in China.
I don’t think most people really understand what has been done to this country by Trudeau, during and post-covid, and not one single party here even talks about it.
That beeing shown or said Im not an Iran fan or something.
All that middle east situation should be a bigger discussion. Yet, the disscusion would be highly unpleasant for both sides of the issle those who blindly support US gov acctins oa for those who support palestine and all like plestine issues
NY is actually worse. They actually have NYS Tax offices in other states to try and extort people who move out.
They’ve been trying to go after people’s pension income for decades if the companies they retired from are based in NY - Like my dad who worked for the power company in NYC
