Hello everyone, does openmandriva support x86-64-v3 packages?
this is not so simple ,
that mean all version x86-64 , v2 , v3 and v4
it take a long time to build - compile ( on alhp archlinux may be differ by one day )
but better ask you if you will testing 4 times , for each version built.
the gain optimize are not so great between x86-v64 and x86-64-v3 , only V4 with AVX512 can in some case do better , that required recent cpu as Zen4 and Zen5 or , if you are lucky Intel with avx512
It seems openSUSE, RHEL has x86-64-v3 optimized packages, so it might good to include a few v3 optimized packages as well, especially given the potential performance gains on modern CPUs.
Archlinux have the project to build to V1 to V4 but this will not happened after 2 years , no change in stable.
you have also to understand that ist required a CPU from 2015 or more ( V3 ) , that cannot be installed on older cpu / arch ( v2 is about 2009).
@bero you clarify on this for openmandriva with the team ( state july 2025 ) ?
This is an up to date Cooker znver1 system, AMD Ryzen 5 7530U with Radeon Graphics:
$ /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 --help
...
Subdirectories of glibc-hwcaps directories, in priority order:
x86-64-v4
x86-64-v3 (supported, searched)
x86-64-v2 (supported, searched)
I don’t know if this means v4 is not supported or if it means v4 is not supported on my hardware. But I am fairly certain that it means v2 and v3 are supported.
Thanks, Most of the processors after 2015 support v3 but I meant if dnf installs v3 packages from repository when it detects supported hardware
@bero would know this way better than me. As far as I know the packages in the repositories are all the same.
There are packages in our repos that are old just like with any distro maybe (but I doubt it) some were built before v3 support was added, but any system packages or commonly used packages would have v3 support. I don’t think there would be many if any that do not have v3 support.
So a question: Are there actually distros that have the same software with different packages for v2, and v3?
