I am thinking about getting a MacBook sometime in the future. However, there was a similar discussion about it in 2021, but there was a lack of time/public interest back then. Is this still the case?
OpenMandriva likely won’t do anything special for Apple silicon. Support will come if/when drivers from Asahi get merged with the kernel or out of tree modules become available.
If the aarch64 ISO doesn’t work with it, that will probably be due to a restriction on their part. ARM is meant to be open. This is really the only current kernel I have seen that has recent commits.
