Whoopee, new nVidia proprietary driver to test!

It still does all that but it’s not enough because we load drm at bootime and since we start with an initrd before we switch to the main root the nouveau module gets loaded automatically and this blocks the nvidia one.
I’ve just looked at the spec file and nothing is done with grub there I think I could have it into the %post scripts

OK then time for me to butt out of this one and let folks with nVidia hardware work this out.

Thanks Colin for your work building packages, and thanks adelson, blacky, and Maurice for testing.

Maurice.
Builds should be in the repos now they are saying published.
Colin

Ben / Colin,

The first time i used the nVidia 340.96 driver.
I modified the /etc/nvidia340/modprobe.conf to blacklist the nouveau driver.

blacklist nouveau
options nouveau modeset=0
install nvidia /sbin/modprobe nvidia340 $CMDLINE_OPTS

Colin,

I just downloaden the 5 rpm’s I need.
But urpmi can’t install them, same version: 340.102-1

and it works fine!

Thanks a lot.

Maurice,
New versions available
Colin

Colin,

I see that the RPMs are moved to ‘non-free/updates’ repo …
OMCC don’t regonized it as an update yet.
Downloaded manualy and installed.
Works fine, kernel-module is build and installed.

Thanks.

Maurice,
Did you have to make any mods to the grub2 command line to blacklist nouveau?
Colin

Colin,

No modification in GRUB or /etc/nvdia340/modprobe.conf
I use since nVidia 340.101 the /etc/X11/xorg.conf generated by OMCC (XFdrake).

Hi

If anyone have a notebook with 2 graphic chips, can he install not dkms-nvidia
it exist bumblebee, this should you install…
in bumblebee works also.

you can add
Blacky try this rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau at the end of grub command line.
The module is included in the initrd I think the command above will prevent it from loading.
(should normal works with /etc/modprobe.d/backlist*.conf, hardcoded in the kernel it is not okey and not standart !! by the way, check “urpme -a nouveau” and you see the f… Nouveau driver it is build in like … (Blacky control yourself!!) … and it is highest depended and this is really not okey !
because everyone should have the possible to handle that in normal and standard way… and this is it not at moment)

if you want use nvidia original drivers…

or:
modprobe.blacklist = nouveau
https://antergos.com/wiki/de/hardware/graphics/bumblebee-for-nvidia-optimus/

and by the way, i have make now a inofficially forum
on my blackysgate.net (blackysgate.net/omlxforum), if you want have a inofficiall Space,
have fun  You be also in able to use ssl on it, but you mus first trust in FF or Opera this https.

PHPBB 3.2
rssgenerator it is running and reply’s per mail request it is possible too.
have fun ! This Computer it is in my Basement from my rented apartment

best regards
Blacky

We need to put something in the announcement or release notes about bumblebee setup.
Blacky can you detail what you did step by step to get it working on you notebook. Also it would help if you said the model of your notebook. Thenwe can say that it works on that type of machine.

Hi Colin,
i have install all nvidia things what’s need to work,
i have install all, dkms-nvidia-current, x11-driver-video-nvidia-current, nvidia-cuda-toolkit and
bumblebee-nvidia what handle the special (in an other directory) xorg.conf for the 2nd nvidia-chip.
(oh primus-nvidia exist also, should i test if i take out my notebook again)

the dkms-nvidia create a nvidia module and the dkms-bumblebee handle the extended
nvidia configuration and prepared for using .

with “optirun your_programm” can you use the nvidia drivers.

and with “nvidia-bumblebee-settings” do you see what runs and if all well work.

there it is something with prime, with you can change the graficchip
for full using. (oh it exist a prime, but i don’t know if it the right …
https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/512260-Leap-42-1-Optimus-system-with-nvidia-prime-instead-of-bumblebee

with grub-customizer have i am directly blacklisted the nouveau drivers behind directly behind the line of the kernel switches.

(by the way, had become a error by saving the configurations in grub-customizer, should be check!)

would not bad if we have also prime-command for use full the nvidia select for better running
WM and other applications.
So, nvidia as fullscreen and Head acceleration .

best regards
Blacky

Not sure if I understand the problem. Anyway, I have two graphic cards and use bumblebee since it was packaged for OMA. Yes, I had to blacklist nouveau in grub to have nvidia loaded. Primus is optirun default.

There is a problem with bumblebee package however: Its rpm does not removes old versions.

hmm, there with be i am not really involved, because i have a new notebook and have all install new,
maybe could TPG looking this problem for you, maybe could you mailing him…
i have a Aspire F15 F5-573G-55hz
best regards
Blacky

Tested 378.13-3 in OMV Lx 3.02 build 1082.

It works well too !!
