VirtualBox 7.2.6 does not open VM's

Hello,

Requirements:

I have Searched the forum for my issue and found nothing related or helpful
I have checked the Resources category (Resources Index)
I have reviewed the Wiki for relevant information
I have read the the Release Notes and Errata

OpenMandriva Lx version:

$ cat /etc/release
OpenMandriva Lx release 26.90 (Nickel) Cooker for znver1

Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…):
Cooker and ROME Plasma6 both dsynced today

Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):

Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…):
journalct-vbox.txt (274.0 KB)

VBox.log.txt (15.8 KB)

The problem is that VM’s do not open as shown in screen shot above.

Starting VM from cli just tells what is already known:

$ VBoxManage startvm "ROME-P6-64-3364" --type headless
Waiting for VM "ROME-P6-64-3364" to power on...
VBoxManage: error: Failed to load R0 module /usr/lib/virtualbox/VMMR0.r0: Unable to locate imported symbol 'RTSystemGetPageShift' for module 'VMMR0.r0' (VERR_SYMBOL_NOT_FOUND).
VBoxManage: error: Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_SYMBOL_NOT_FOUND)
VBoxManage: error: Details: code NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005), component ConsoleWrap, interface IConsole

Bug Report:

VirtualBox 7.2.6 does not open VM’s #3433

Looks like there may be a solution

That would be some kernel patch openSUSE has? Can we hope that is in the latest from kernel.org? Which is 6.19.2 and which is building for Cooker right now.

Looks like I may need to change the title of this thread. I tried in a new ROME system installing virtualbox-7.1.8 and using it with kernel-desktop-6.17.8-1 and I am still getting this error. That suggests the problem is something else, not the kernel or the version of VBox.

Are you installing those from the repo? Or downloading from Oracle directly?

I haven’t had a chance to set up a new rome install yet, so I can’t test this.

But if you need it: Index of http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox

I test OpenMandriva isos and packages. They are from the repos. Mostly I try to test with an eye to how things might look to people new to Linux, or new to OpenMandriva Linux, and including less-technically inclined users.

Every once in a while I do have to install the VBox from Oracle, if that works and ours does not that tells us something.

That’s exactly what I was thinking…

Hence why I included the link

I’m told the OM devs are waiting for a new kvm backend for VBox and that this should happen soon. Soon in OM time could mean 2-3 days, 2-3 months, or longer. So for the time being VBox is kaput in Cooker and ROME unless you install a previous version of VBox and an older kernel. But I am not positive even that will work. I might test this some day.

I would suggest to try VBox version 7.1.8 and maybe some version of kernel 6.15.
