Tried to install openmandriva-6.0-xfce.x86_64 but it installed Gnome

Hello,

Requirements:

I have Searched the forum for my issue and found nothing related or helpful
I have checked the Resources category (Resources Index)
I have reviewed the Wiki for relevant information
I have read the the Release Notes and Errata

OpenMandriva Lx version:

Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…):
XFCE

Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):
I tried installing openmandriva-6.0-xfce.x86_64.iso since I could not get Rock x11 ( my perfered version to install of Lx) and due to the constant Kwin crashes with Lx Wayland but when I got the iso of xfce to install and booted it I got Gnome to install which I do not want.

Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…):

Hi!

As far as I know, the website doesn’t provide a Xfce spin of ROCK, so you must have used an older sourceforge ISO, which I could find, yes. I have tested that myself long ago, too.

I am not sure what is the issue here. You could perhaps try uninstalling gnome and its related packages, save for the keyring, and install, say, LightDM as it is usually what comes with Xfce isos.

I am under the impression the Xfce ROCK version doesn’t get a lot of attention, so I am feeling inclined to tell you to use a spin instead, but only Cooker is available, and I could not get it to update due to a missing package.

The Plasma ROCK 6.0 should come with X11. If you have no issue with plasma, it would be better using that.

This link is the correct iso. It uses `gdm` as the display manager which is from gnome, and will probably install an extremely minimal gnome environment. You should still be able to select the xfce session at the login screen.

It installs minimum gnome because it uses gdm as a display manager. You can get rid of this by removing gdm, and gnome-session in tty terminal and typing sudo dnf in lightdm. Then sudo systemctl enable lightdm.service.

If you want to run any Wayland type sessions ie. Sway, it hyprland you need to keep gdm or install ly.

Have done so successfully both in a vm and also on bare metal.
