Touchpad not detected on 2012 Macbook 10,1 retina

Hello,

Requirements:

I have [Searched] the forum for my issue and found nothing related or helpful
I have checked the [Resources category ]
I have reviewed the [Wiki] for relevant information
I have read the the [Release Notes and Errata]

OpenMandriva Lx version:

OpenMandriva Lx 6.0 (Vanadium) Rock

Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…):

Plasma

Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):

Touchpad hardware not detected in System Settings.

Touching the touchpad often completely messes up the operation of the mouse I have connected to USB, which works perfectly as a temporary workaround otherwise.

Is there a kernel module I need to add or something? Hopefully running ubuntu for over a decade has not killed too many of my brain cells!

Welcome! We are glad to see you and hope you decide to make this your home.

Please post the output of

lspci

and

lsusb

as code, by using three back tics before and after the output. That is the key to the left of the 1 that also has a tilde on it. ~

Sorry, if you already know that. :slightly_smiling_face:

No sorry. Better twice than nothing

Thanks!

Try this one.

cat /proc/bus/input/devices

I see,

Bus 002 Device 005: ID 05ac:0262 Apple, Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad

but would like to know more. Not being familiar with Apple hardware, I was not expecting the keyboard and trackpad to be one device.

Yeah, I also saw that; it’s exasperating!

Here, we see them separate. I am guessing the second one is the touchpad/trackpad. The first one could just be the backlighting?

I have to pass this one off to one of our experts that is familiar with Apple hardware. Being an Intel Mac, it should be fully supported. Having never touched a mac, it is over my head.

Thanks! I am hoping it’ll be something minor and obvious to someone in the know.

At least we have the device nailed down.

Does it work pretty seamlessly once it is set up @lord_nougat? Do you dual boot I assume and keep MacOS as an option? I didn’t realize how much I’d miss the hardware. The Dell I’m using for OMLx is extremely distasteful to use on a daily basis.

Eventually I’ll get a computer I like better, but so far this “works” so I won’t be re-purchasing anything anytime soon, hence me curious about your Mac install.

The touch pad does not work properly, it can sort of move up and down but that’s it, and then it needs a reboot because the mouse no longer functions properly; so no to the first question. The touchpad worked just fine when I installed ubuntu… but I didn’t want to run ubuntu on this or much else anymore, and getting the cool guy distro to work as my daily driver seemed like what I want to do, hence here I am!

I do not dual boot, OpenMandriva gets the whole drive, as the gods intended.

Aside from the very annoying touchpad issue, I’ve gotten everything else including sound working great, and Apple does male some nice hardware; Dell is just so… plasticky!
