Time to stop installing Plasma5

Hello,

  • OpenMandriva Lx version:
    Cooker, ROME, Rock

  • Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…):
    Plasma5

  • Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):
Plasma5 is over. Technically it is still supported upstream but the last release 5.27.11 was 6 March 2024

  • Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…):
    Plasma6.1 was released 18 June 2024

Stop installing Plasma5. Plasma6 has been available in Cooker and ROME for a long time. It will be in next Rock release. The next release of ROME and Rock will still have Plasma5 packages but that will be the end of that. Installing Plasma5 now is just installing something that will have to be upgraded to Plasma6 in the near future. Why bother with that?

I believe Cooker and ROME will no longer be offering Plasma5 isos. I hope so anyway.

To clarify something.

There are not updates available upstream now and there are no plans to do so. So by far the most likely scenario is that the P5 package in ROME now are the end. No more updates. Those of course will be the packages that go in Rock 5.1 but it is very unlikely there would be any updates at all after Rock 5.1 release. We can’t if they are not being made upstream.
