Thumbnails Dolphin disappeared

I installed the latest Rock KDE Slim today and everything was fine. Copied my usual files from an external drive and thumbnails for both pictures and videos were as expected. Updated the system and installed a few extras (only from official repo) + a couple of Flatpaks. Came to restart this afternoon and all thumbnails have gone. Just spent some considerable time searching in other forums but nothing suggested there has enabled me to find a solution.

This means no issues before:

You can easily understand that not providing any useful information no one can help.

What useful information do you require?

Knowing which packages were installed, upgraded or perhaps any packages that got removed during those steps and any extra packages that you installed would be a good starting place so that we may perhaps be able to identify a package that could maybe do that.

If you do not have any logs of your system update transactions you can make use of the dnf history subcommands to obtain transaction details.

Link to the DNF4 history command documentation that you may find useful to reference: DNF Command Reference — DNF @DNF_VERSION@-1 documentation

I found it myself by doing another install on a different machine and working through my usual post install ops. Luckily it was at the beginning of the queue and not the end. Since I prefer the Oxygen style I installed this using Dnfdrake and immediately after the thumbnails disappeared. Uninstall the Oxygen style and they all come back again. Guess I’ll have to stick with Breeze.

Do you have the exact package name? We carry a lot of packages with oxygen in their names.

The more information you can provide the quicker we can investigate this and potentially fix it for everyone which would be the most desirable result and for that we need to know which package is causing the issue.

It was ‘plasma6-oxygen.x86_64’

I cant see anything that stands out in the packages spec file as interfering with thumbnails.

However, I checked on KDE’s bug portal and found a few issues reported there relating to thumbnails and Oxygen theme:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=504126
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=504913

and one semi-related but with no mention of Oxygen with this one:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=503799

Maybe some of those symptoms match with what you experienced with the plasma6-oxygen package installed?

Yes. These do appear to be related. In fairness themes are often problematic even on Windows LOL. Also related, but not directly to this theme, when using Dnfdrake there are confusing duplicate entries. Take for example ‘kpat’. For a lot of people the first one in the list would be the logical choice yet presumably the plasma6 option is the one needed? I tried playing around with these and is some cases it’s possible to install either and run the programs without issue but in other cases having chosen the first entry for one item, a subsequent selection of a plasma6 entry for something else throws up an error presumable because of an incompatibility between some library or other. Since now we’re on Plasm6 it would be helpful if only those entries were displayed in Dnfdrake.

I don’t see how this can be related to the thumbnail issue.
