So is OpenMandriva a gaming distro?

Because on two computers now everything runs better on it than it did on windows.

I came to OpenMandriva for several reasons, one being that I couldn’t get Dayz to run on windows despite very extensive troubleshooting. I literally rebuilt my computer trying to get it to work. Linux was pretty much a last resort. when I got it installed on OM with AMD it worked like a dream. Then I found out that all the really old games I like ran really well.

So my kid played Dayz on windows too and his started running like shit. Hes been bugging me for months to try OM to see if it would fix it. I didnt want to be his technical support so I put it off. The end of Windows 10 made him put me on the spot, I folded and finally installed OM on his computer.

And everything he plays works better on it same hardware and all.

OpenMandriva is a gaming distro whether it has been marketed as that or not.

I use it mainly for sermon/devotion writing and gaming.

Sure, I can play all the games that I was playing before…

Hi, LinNoob. I am glad Open Mandriva is serving you well!

I have yet to make a full review of OM as a daily driver, but to summarize, it just works. There is nothing critical for my usage that I cannot do here.

I have been on and off the distro, switching between arch-based and devuan, but finally ended up on OMA Rock again.

If there is something I don’t like, I can change without finding myself in a deadlock or without a desktop. Despite other packages like ones that aren’t part of KDE being marked as “low priority” in case some bug occurs, they work just fine as well (I’m talking about bspwm and some other packages like that; I have a little github project I am possibly gonna move to OMA soon).

I think the most important thing about the distro is the fact that it is sane. Cocerning parts of systemd are either off or removed, and the nice working parts are used. Wayland, while working for basic usage, isn’t there yet for more involved usage (some cad programs, for instance, perhaps some games), so X11 is not only present - and not getting removed any time soon - but XLibre is on the horizon as well.
That alone makes me feel like, if you want to have a system that doesn’t get in your way, constantly updating and breaking, putting things in purely for political/religious reasons (Rust) for the sake of it and breaking stuff, removing X11 for Wayland religion reasons, Open Mandriva is the way to go. I also believe it is future-proof, for the devs don’t shoot themselves in the foot.

Should you want something rolling, there is always ROME, but I have settled in Rock. Very stable foundation! (pun intended!)

So, welcome! Enjoy yourself! Cheers!
