Seeking help to repair KDE

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Currently on OpenMandriva Rocks Lx 6.0 since May, first

I’m using Gnome with Wayland on a daily basis with the nvidia driver 575 included in the non free repository. Graphic card : Quadro K620, SDDM login manager disabled in favor of GDM)

To get some extra packages I activated every repository during the last free weeks (non-free, extra, etc…). No packages were manually compiled.

Non critical, I wanted to use temporarily a X11 package with KDE and I couldn’t login or the login freeze or the screen went black. I searched the wiki or the forum, tested various solutions, I couldn’t repair it properly

After trying to update with dnf, I still couldn’t use properly kde. I guess something went wrong.

sudo dnf in task-plasma6
sudo dnf in task-plasma6-x11
sudo dnf in task-plasma6-wayland

command runs fine but kde unusable or x11 on another tty. (Can’t reproduce the steps, I even don’t know how it popped up but succeed running a session with X11)

Trying to downgrade :

sudo dnf in task-plasma

Don’t know what to do, basically I would like to be able to run sometines an alternative kde5 or kde6 environment. Not business critical, any help appreciated.

As far as I know Plasma5 and Plasma6 packages on the same system are incompatible. The system has to be either Plasma5 OR Plasma6. To do this you would need a partition for P5 and a separate partition for P6. Or a hw system with one and a VM with the other or a hw system with Gnome and VM’s for the KDEs.

sddm definitely will have problems when you have duplicate sddm packages as shown above.

I didn’t know about that. I thought there was a conflict between kde5 and kde6 packages but it looks like related to Nvidia… again Wayland froze / super slow, I got x11 working after purging / cleaning my install.

Not related, I received earlier my second-used AMD radeon rx550 low profile I purchased and it works SEAMLESS ! ! ! Gnome - KDE - Fluxbox etc.. X11 - Wayland no problems at the moment.

After researching a bit on reddit / google recommendations, this kind of graphic card fit slim tower models on older motherboard with a pcie 2.0 slot like mine and I can confirm that it runs smoothly with Open Mandriva.

Best experience I’ve ever had. It’s like the windows are ready to popup when I put the finger on my keyboard without pressing it.

Nvidia is nice on Windows, with Linux and especially OpenMandriva, if you can, my advise is to just drop it and switch to an AMD card. Nvidia is fine with Rocks but is gonna be a pain with a rolling distro like ROME. To be honnest, to keep using Nvidia, better use another distro, no offenses.
