Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):
Hello, I have posted a screen recording of what I see when booting from the ISO file above.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8jxofq3ySA
I have not been able to figure out how to install Open Mandriva and am seeking guidance.
I have some experience with Ubuntu Desktop and this is my first attempt at using Open Mandriva. I am perplexed that I cannot even figure out how to install it.
Hopefully some someone can suggest what I might be doing wrong.
Thank you! -

I don’t think we provide hyper-v guest integration. Make sure secure boot is off and all of the other guest additions. Try also booting into console or failsafe and get logs so we can see any messages that the video doesn’t show.
We sort of provide it, there’s a hyperv-tools
package containing tools to be used in hyper-v guests. But I don’t think anyone has ever tried it, so it may or may not work. Success or bug reports very much welcome.
I don’t think anyone has ever tried to install in Hyper-V. Getting a black screen at that point is an indication that the kernel isn’t booting. It would be useful to get some more information on that (maybe in CLI troubleshooting mode, more bootup messages are visible).
5.0 is a year old; you may want to try ROME or Cooker, maybe the problem has already been fixed in newer kernels.
Alternatively, you can try booting it directly on the hardware, or in another virtualization tool. qemu and VirtualBox are known to work (the latter with some caveats because it doesn’t do 3D graphics acceleration).
Thanks everyone. If I boot in Troubleshooting mode with basic graphics there is some output. This screenshot shows what the state is right before going to a blank screen with a blinking cursor.

You will probably have better support with VirtualBox. I don’t know how much you rely on Hyper-V, but I do know Win will only let you have one hypervisor solution installed at a time (or it did).
The issue is most likely with the drivers and I don’t think the ISO is going to ship with hyper-v guest tools installed. You could try adding different HDD controllers from simple IDE to AHCI and see if there is a better outcome, but you still may need to tweak other things like graphics and possibly networking adapters. Make the guest as simple as you can and start adding complex things later on. See if you can identify what might be causing the failure.
I will try the ROME release and see what happens.
Seems like I might be wasting people’s time pursuing this combination since apparently it is unusual. Figured I was just doing something wrong and did not consider compatibility issues. The distros that we are currently using include Debian, Ubuntu, Rocky, and Mint. (but I have only installed Ubuntu myself)
I do rely on Hyper-V a lot. 12 servers with different Hyper-V versions in the cluster and probably somewhere around 50 virtual machines with all sorts of different guest OS.
Most of the VMs are Generation 1 so there is no EFI or secure boot. Recently a few Generation 2 were added just for Windows 11, but that’s all.
Thanks everyone for adding your assistance so quickly. Much appreciated.
“12 servers with different Hyper-V versions in the cluster and probably somewhere around 50 virtual machines with all sorts of different guest OS.”
That sounds like a casino. That was basically what we had.
If there is an option for Mandrake64 bit in there, choose that.
I encountered this YouTube video

Downloaded this ISO

And installed in on Hyper-V

A message for future Google travelers who may find their way here:
If you are trying to install Open Mandriva on Hyper-V like I was, the only ISO that I was able to get working was the most recent build from https://abf.openmandriva.org/platforms/rolling/products/37
ROME rolling gnome x86_64
I tried may ISO files and was unsuccessful with any of the KDE/Plasma versions or LXQt versions. Maybe these are issues that you could help the community resolve by creating bug reports or fixing graphics drivers. I don’t know how to go about any of that.

I am glad to hear you got it running. Good job.
