Realtek card support

Hello,

  • OpenMandriva Lx version: ROME 24.12 Live USB

  • Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…): KDE (wayland)

  • Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant): No wired internet connection.

  • Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…): Missing support for Realtek RTL8111/8168/8211/8411 network card. lspci -v output: 72:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8211/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 15)

Previously I tried to install r8168-dkms driver and blacklist the r8169 driver, as many thought the latter was not working properly. It didn’t work on any distributions since 6.12 kernel update. Last time I had wired internet connection was with fedora 41 a few weeks ago (cannot remember kernel version).
Can this issue be solved in OpenMandriva? If yes, how and when? Thanks in advance for your replies.

The issue is more is the device supported by kernel.org. You can check that here. If it is and is not working then file a bug report here. Select New issue>Bug report.

If it is not supported by kernel.org is there a Linux driver for the device somewhere else? And if there is would the license be compatible with OM policy. Some licenses we can not support. It there is such a driver somewhere you can make a package request here. Select New issue>Package request.

Edit: You might get a different or quicker answer at OM-Chat. See post below for the wiki link.

Welcome @petrujenac to OpenMandriva and our forum. This forum is for users of OpenMandriva Linux operating systems.

OpenMandriva Forums are primarily users helping other users.

You are welcome to talk to our developers at OpenMandriva Chat.

Users with a problem need to read How to get better results when posting about problems before reporting any issue or problem. The article is not too long and Do Read.

When a new user has an issue please look in the documentation for OMLx. OpenMandriva wiki, Forum Resources guide and the “Search” function of the forum.

If you don’t find what you are looking for, try an Internet search. One can find out a lot from documentation or forum posts at other Linux distros. If user finds something written for another distro but you have some doubt ask at OpenMandriva Chat.

For serious technical issues and package/feature requests please file a bug report here.

Note: We are a small group. All the contributors and developers here are unpaid volunteers.
You can make OpenMandriva grow and improve by getting involved

Any help with testing would be appreciated whether one is technically proficient or a very non-technical user. The more people and more hardware we can get involved the better we can make OMLx releases and packaging. We do a lot of testing in VM’s as well. Developers tend to use Qemu, most user level testers use VirtualBox.
