Long time Linux user with Arch on my laptop and gaming desktop, Debian on my home file server. Fed up with the unnecessary encroachment of politics in software, I decided to give OM a shot after seeing all the hype.
Sorry guys, I just can’t stick with it. Missing/broken packages in the repos, basic functionality not working and inconsistent default settings out of the box (Sleep settings not set?). WINE not drawing over certain elements of Plasma whether X11 or Wayland. I’m not a Linux noob, I can get all of it working how I want it to. All of those things I would consider basic enough that they shouldn’t require end-user intervention, and all of them “just work” out of the box on my standard Arch install.
I hope that with the big influx of new users a lot of these nitpicky things will get taken care of. Maybe I’ll check in again in a year or so because I really like what the team is doing, but for now I’m going to have to go back to Arch.
Sad that your very first message here is where you say you leave.
I does not look like you have asked for any help or reported any issue. Would you argument the ones you had?
As clearly stated OpenMandriva is not Arch (or whatever else fwiw) hence there may be default settings different from what you are accustomed.
At any rate if you feel Arch to better fit your needs it’s your understandable choice to stick with it.
We are glad that you gave OM a try.
Who knows.
We’ll have the evidence later: if the user will not reply with argument specific I’d assume the first and last post is sort of template (just change ‘OM’ with ‘whateverdistroname’) with the sole purpose to advertise Arch
It’s in the extras repo. Is the package broken? Did you file a bug report?

Oof… I never said OMLx sucks. In fact I like a lot of what you’ve done.
I never posted before because a lot of the issues I had are the same/similar issues that a lot of users are already posting about, and many of the responses boil down to, “We’re working on it.” “We’ll get to it.” etc. etc. I’m not the type to make duplicate posts just to be “seen” or “heard”.
I’m not holding that against you, I know you’re a small team and a small distro that’s still growing and probably getting overwhelmed with a lot of the new users. Which is why I said I’ll check back in a year… because I hope your team and your distro grows and improves. Chill out.
As you put it it seems that we lie or just going to ignore the reports.
Maybe it’s the kind of attitude you’d expect from your experience however here is the news: we don’t do that.
“we are working on it” means exactly that we are working on it.
Surprised? Well I can understand
As an alternative there is also the KDE app kid3 audio tagger application which is available in OMLx that you could use meantime until picard situation is sorted out and it is installable again.
The bug reports are an easy way to see that we are indeed “working on it” as each report is dated and as a general rule, they are first come, first served.
Large distro’s are what they are. OM is what we make it. I personally, decided to stick around and make it better. If I know how to fix my or someone else’s issue, I’m going to help fix it. That way the next user get’s a better experience. This evening, I’ll go and look at the picacrd package and see why it doesn’t install. If I can figure that out, I’ll add comment a possible creat an updated spec file for the package.
For OMLx to reach its full potential and everthing just work, it takes work. Somethimes that work is the simple act of filing a bug report.
I think Troll was a bit harsh I understand the frustration and the comments were reasonable. Giving the most charitable interpretation I understood:
There are too many small problems for me to try and solve for the moment but you seem to be aware of them and are working on them so maybe I will check back again later and see how OM is going. But for now i need to stick with arch for my workflow.
There was not at all the rude angry tone that I have seen in some other posts and there was an overall appreciation for the direction of the OM project. Maybe he just doesn’t have the time to invest in making OM work for him. At least he took the time to give some feedback and didn’t just write off OM.
I think in general first responces should give the benefit of the doubt and see where things go from there. Communication face to face is difficult enough but without facial expressions and other visual ques it’s very easy to misinterpret one another on social media platforms like this. And most of us have seen where that can lead.
I read the OP as “I like the direction this project is moving, but it is not quite polished enough for my use case.” Which I find completely acceptable.
We have had some trolls i just hope you’re not to scarred from the experience
There are also the cultural differences most Americans particularly from the south have a lower BS tolerance than most. Thats why I left the uk for France my BS tolerance wasn’t high enough and the english produce more than most. Sorry to my fellow countrymen but politness over telling how it is drove me crazy.
I do enjoy being proven wrong. Therefore, I will apologize for misunderstanding. We do hope new users will want to contribute to making it better, but recognize some may not want to. It just gets frustrating when people show up, put in little to no effort to identify the problem and come up with a solution, then announce their departure like it’s the airport.
Constructive criticism and feedback are always welcome, but it’s something completely different when it’s immediately compared to other “out of the box” distros with questionable funding, and there has been no effort to understand what we are trying to achieve.
