I tried the steps I detailed here:
I also tried switching from SDDM
to LIGHTDM
as one of the users suggested.
Result:
There are issues with Display port dual screen setups and Plasma. This is something I’ve experienced in every other distro, and the majority of them (except MxLinux which is running an older kernel / driver /plasma from Debian 12) all have this same issue. When I start Steam the SDDM/Plasma screen monitor refreshes and one of the two outputs loses its mind and goes back to 1998, setting the resolution to 1024x768. As I said however, this is not an OpenMandriva problem it is a weird bug with Plasma + Nvidia + DisplayPort.
My second computer the newer one (with the specs above) uses HDMI output and doesn’t have this issue. However, I am still getting the random black screen to the log out screen and I cannot access any of the TTY settings in the latest kernel (It installs 6.13.rc5 when I was installing the open NVIDIA dkms driver. Interestingly, when I go back to 6.12 in the selection screen, TTY does work again)
So how do I resolve this on other Distros?
- The DP computer I’ve decided to avoid Plasma as there’s no real way I have time to debug the root cause.
- The HDMI computer is currently running Plasma on Endeavour which doesn’t have the random black screen kickout to the log in screen.
I’m hopeful these can be resolved, need guidance in troubleshooting. I can install an image on an external drive and produce any logs you need.
