Please test OM Lx 4.3 ISO

Hello,

  • OpenMandriva Lx version:
    OM Lx 4.3 RC
    RC=Release Candidate

  • Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…):
    Officially KDE Plasma 5.21.5
    LXQt 0.17 is available
There are a number of other desktops made available by Community members.

  • Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):
OpenMandriva needs as many users to try the OM Lx 4.3 RC ISO as possible. We especially need less technical users to try this.

  • Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…):
The announcement for OM Lx 4.3 RC is here.
    The ISO’s are available here.

If we can get our users to do just a little bit of testing of this it would be a big help. For less technical users if you just boot the ISO and spend a little bit of time noodleing about you may find something we have missed so far in our testing. Users tend to find things that developers and QA minions miss.

Another reason this is such a big help is simply that the more hardware, the more users with different perspectives, and different expectations the greatly chance that potential issues get uncovered.

If we can get some of our users to spend just a little bit of time on this it really would be appreciated and be a big help to developers and QA. And we would have a stronger release as a result.

Thank you OMV contributors for this great 4.3 RC release. As always, OpenMandriva delivers a very smooth first-time experience. I haven’t advanced too far with it right now, but I ran some tests in the live mode.
At the moment I noticed two issues:

  • Audacity does not run (may be package rebuild is required)
  • Discover installs all apps just fine, but cannot uninstall them. It says “package not found”.

Well, Audacity runs fine on an installed system. Still no luck with deleting apps via Discover…

Just tested on VM. Audacity starts and run fine. x86_64 iso. Can you run it in konsole and paste here output?
Here is my run:

From what I see:

@rugyada can you look at om-control center. Looks like button “configure your firewall” in security TAB not working. At least when clicking on it nothing happen.
Perhaps the “link” still leads to the old NX-Firewall configuration and not to the new plasma-firewall.

I mean this:

Another things:

Kosnole in VM open in small window. Just like this:

Well, Discover behaves somehow strange.
If I install some package, go to its description page in Discover and try to uninstall it right away, it says ‘package not found’.
However, if I close Discover and open it again, it will update its database and then let me uninstall that app.
So, formally it works, but very very unintuitively.

Yes I was about to tell you that.
PS>
Discover is not the best piece of software out there, imo

This I cannot confirm.
Live mode:

When I tried Audacity, it did start up, but it displayed only part of the file that I opened and I couldn’t get it to display the whole file. I tried an ogg and an mp3 file.

I withdraw my last comment. My mistake. I wasn’t looking at the screen properly.

This is an in my opinion post:
You might like this better instead. Discover is notorious for being impossible to keep working correctly. There are posts all over Linux world about this.

I checked it again from the live mode. When I install Audacity via Discover, it won’t start. I get the following output if I try to start it from the command line:

However, if i install it via ‘sudo dnf in audacity’, it starts fine. Seems like another bug in Plasma Discover…

How to install new packages

While graphical tools (Discover, dnfdragora, etc.) are useful to find out available extra software, we strongly suggest to install packages from command line:
$ sudo dnf --refresh install <package_name>

Release notes

Okay. Somehow Discover is just a front-end to Packagekit, which works that bad.
Dnfdragora is a front-end to DNF and it works as good as dnf itself.

The duck is turning to a swan… What a wonder!
Installed this morning but haven’t had time yet to explore.

Just one thing : install failed with btrsf for the “/” partition. Just worked with ext4 (and /home on btrfs : a partition I share between several distros).

Still bugs on the different flavors of the interface : for instance, Konsole can’t be resized in the WIN10 desktop arrangement (which I will never use, anyway!..).

Great job! Counting minutes before final release …

Thks to you!

That’s definitely up to you, but I wouldn’t advise anyone to use BTRFS at all. Not only because its B-trees render the hard drive empty pretty much soon without filling it with anything useful, but also due to the fact that BTRFS volumes often don’t survive power outages. I’ve already lost few VMs after that.
So far I’ve tested OpenMandriva 4.3 using Ext4, and there were no issues at all.

can someone else check return journalctl :
with sudo dmesg , i get all messages kernels , with
sudo journalctl -b0 , i only get on start journalctl
i got

-- Journal begins at Sun 2021-03-28 12:13:48 CEST, ends at Fri 2021-05-28 07:54:00 CEST. --
mai 28 07:49:13 omv systemd-journald[202]: Journal started
mai 28 07:49:13 omv systemd-journald[202]: Missed 752 kernel messages

I get over 1500 lines.

The missing kernel messages are normal as far as I know. At any rate this is not new, has been this way for some time.

I do not know why they are not printed. Maybe because they are in dmesg output?
