Selecting text in any context, while there is an item in the clipboard, causes the plasmashell process to ues 80-90% CPU. This only happens ins Wayland.
mousing over any part of plasma (desktop, task bar) causes this to stop
When the mouse touches these areas, any newly copied data is destroyed (not in clipboard, CTRL + V pastes old data)
clearing the clipboard stops this from happening until something else is copied
the clipboard only seems to hold on to the original item, does not have more than one item
Clipboard settings:
Clipboard history OFF
History size 20
Selection and Clipboard OFF
Non-text selection Only when explicitly copied
I have tested this on a fresh live boot session of Rome Wayland, and it still happens, although with a lower CPU usage (~30% CPU on plasmashell) but all other symptoms are the same.
Welcome! We already know you from Matrix, but it is good to see you on the forums too.
Yes, the clipboard doesn’t seem to work with Wayland. I don’t think anyone has figured out why at this point. X11 works fine, but a lot of people want to run Wayland. It’s the shiny new thing.
Yes this solution works quite well, if one doesnt want to use the clipboard history that is
I used this for a while before I got too frustrated with the screenshots disappearing. From what I’ve read, there is a (bug?) in KDE that if you copy something ie media, and the source of that copy closes, the copy disappears. This makes sense mostly, apart from the screenshot tool.
I am very used to the windows workflow of SHIFT+WIN+S for quickly screenshotting things, however with the clipboard disabled, there is nowhere for that screenshot to be stored, so it times out after a few seconds…
I do hope it gets fixed soon. Unfortunately X11 KDE doesnt work well with my touchscreen+stylus laptop, and wayland makes things far nicer…
