Mattina presto di alcuni giorni fa: accendo il monitor esterno e alzo lo schermo del notebook per risvegliarlo dalla sospensione.
Faccio sempre così. Accade l’inaspettato! Lo schermo esterno diventa nero, corro al notebook per vedere le impostazioni dello schermo: lo schermo esterno si riaccende e lo schermo (integrato) del notebook diventa nero.
Comincia una vana rincorsa a destra e sinistra, cercando d’inseguire lo schermo acceso, ma arrivo sempre in ritardo; mi sento come un topo fatto gioco dal gatto.
Decido, stacco il cavo HDMI e vado con il solo monitor (integrato) del notebook.
Incredibile compare schermata DOS, quella su sfondo rosso con avvisi in riquadri doppio bordati bianchi, mi avvisa che «ha perso il collegamento con root» (?) ; di più non riesco a leggere per via di alcune sovrascritte riportanti errori vari.
Adesso basta! Riavvio, caricamento, schermata iniziale, utente e password e via… dopo pochi secondi vengo ributtato alla schermata iniziale.
Perbaccolina; di nuovo utente e password e via di nuovo alla schermata iniziale.
Smaliziato: Ctrl+F2 (nuova console), $ utente, $ password, $ startx startplasma-x11 e via… allo schermo nero.
Al terzo riavvio riesco finalmente ad accedere al desktop, controllo le impostazioni di sistema e vedo che qualcosa (o qualcuno) le ha cambiate eliminando lo schermo esterno e variando le dimensioni.
Con pazienza rimetto tutto a posto e, mentre osservo il notebook, vedo muoversi qualcosa in una porta USB; fortunatamente avevo una pinzetta a portata di mano e, svelto, ho afferrato quella specie di folletto e l’ho buttato nel WC.
Quindi tutto bene, solo che questo trambusto mi ha fatto dimenticare che era il compleanno della moglie… ho rischiato di seguire quel coso.
A Santa Lucia sarà carbone di sicuro!
Early morning a few days ago: I turn on the external monitor and raise the notebook screen to wake it from sleep.
I always do this. The unexpected happens! The external screen goes black, I run to the notebook to see the screen settings: the external screen turns on again and the (integrated) notebook screen goes black. A vain chase begins left and right, trying to chase the turned-on screen, but I always arrive late; I feel like a mouse played by the cat.
I decide, unplug the HDMI cable and go with only the (integrated) notebook monitor.
Incredible, the DOS screen appears, the one on a red background with warnings in double boxes with white borders, it warns me that “it has lost the connection with root” (?); I can’t read more because of some overwrites reporting various errors.
Now that’s enough! Reboot, loading, initial screen, user and password and off you go… after a few seconds I’m thrown back to the initial screen.
Good grief; again user and password and back to the home screen.
Smart: Ctrl+F2 (new console), $ user, $ password, $ startx startplasma-x11 and off… to the black screen.
After the third reboot I can finally access the desktop, check the system settings and see that something (or someone) has changed them by eliminating the external screen and varying the size.
Patiently I put everything back in place and while I observe the notebook I see something moving in a USB port; luckily I had a pair of tweezers handy and, quickly, I grabbed that kind of elf and threw it in the toilet.
So all good, except that this commotion made me forget that it was the wife’s birthday… I risked following that thing.
