OM6 iso do not work on bare metal OpenMandrivaLx.6.0 iso 3874-plasma6x11.znver1.iso

I tried two isos both have same welcome screen glitch.
I assume that all iso files have same problems

OpenMandrivaLx.6.0-snapshot.20250420.3874-plasma6x11.znver1.iso
Guys Huston we have problem XD. Eagle has not landed
I just fresh installed zenver on bare metal. What a mess. I got back to om 5 for now.
Let me explain the issue.

a. installation went smooth (I used ventoy with /run/initramfs/omv/Live os open)
a1. welcome screen looks like a bunch of random artifacts.
It looks similar to graphic glitches when your gpu dies.
b. I boot newly installed system and boom.

  1. empty desktop with wallpaper only (no files on it and i have few)
  2. Zero reaction on keyboard or mouse input (no right click menu nothing)
  3. no taskbar / manubar/ kdebar on a bottom of a screen
  4. No way to open console or anything
    A complete dead zombie system

When I roll back to OM 5 everything works like charm like always

Did you replace the root partition while keeping the old /home?

Yup, that is exactly what I have done. That’s wrong / improper?
I replaced / format /efi /boot and / i kept old home intact

That should work and has worked in our testing with a few glitches, but of course using P5 configs with P6 might tell it to load some stuff that doesn’t exist anymore or so. Can you try with a new user account to be sure?

There is no difference between the live system and the installed system, so any reports that the installed system behaves differently from the live system is usually a configuration thing.

I used this iso OpenMandrivaLx.6.0-snapshot.20250420.3876-plasma6x11.x86_64.iso

This is the only iso from those I used that works with no issue, ok maby those two

  • Few icons look funny
-Welcome screen is a total mess.
Everything else is great for now

Screenshot of welcome screen?

My welcome screen. It looks same on actual installed system and live iso
@LeeTalbert You’re right I should have add this :slight_smile:

@grafi install xguest and enter the guest user to check new configuration.

This may have something to do with your problems? I would disable one and try that and if that works OK if not try the other. No, I do not know how to do this, I would guess you do this in the computer firmware/BIOS. I do not have dual graphics, never have.

Device-2: AMD Cezanne [Radeon Vega Series / Radeon Mobile Series]
driver: amdgpu v: kernel

It is set as secondary in uefi so it is probably not that. When it is set as secondary, it is turned off till needed.
I will check tomorrow in VM how this welcome screen looks. I will use exact same iso I have used during install on my PC

I don’t know. This is something you would expect to see with nVidia not AMD graphics.

Exactly. Anyway I will investigate this further I let you all know of any findings or workarounds

@grafi, a possibility, I would consider a corrupted download or corrupted copy to install media such as a usb flash drive as possible causes. If this is specific to OM-Welcome and other apps work OK under your graphics this could be some missing file or something missing with in a file. As a tester I do a lot of downloading and cp to flash drive and it does not happen often but it does happen occasionally.

I checked downloaded iso against checksum, but maybe something goes wrong during the iso transfer to a flash drive. I will definitely investigate that. But… i must add that the om welcome screen issue was present on few different iso images that I downloaded and used.

I will certainly try to manually turn off my AMD Cezanne [Radeon Vega Series / Radeon Mobile Series]

I made preparation for that yesterday, but I prefer to use that option as last resort.
Both cards are managed by same driver ** amdgpu** so one mestake and I have more troubleshooting on my shoulders then it is worth it.

This glich is not a big deal at all. Anyways, I will back up my configs and disable my Radeon Vega.
As for now i removed om-welcome from the system i will reinstall it after reboot and start from there.

I have seen such problems with isos where the checksums are OK. checksum OK means problems are much less likely but…

If your system works for you I would not worry and just use it.

System works almost perfect with a few little inconveniences. And it’s Ok. Haven’t seen such thing like perfect system ever. I will try to resolve the issue just for the sake of it. I do not rely on gui at all but since it baby important for some folks I will try to check this right to the bottom.
I think my hardware is a problem, but it is just a wild guess for now
