OM Rock with Cosmic

hypr has been working fine for me as a fallback. There is probably more configuring I could do and then daily drive it.

As far as Cosmic goes, that’s a conversation for System76.

Does Wayland being woke factor into the discussion here?

Pop!_OS

I still mainly use Pop on a laptop from System76; COSMIC is probably the best thing that has happened to the laptop since I started using it. Before, I would have to, up to multiple times a day, SSH into it and restart gdm or restart the laptop entirely (I think it was something between GNOME and Nvidia). I don’t know if you can upgrade Pop to 24.04 through a GUI or not yet (they’ll allow it as some point), but the upgrade through the terminal (pop-upgrade I think?) was smooth (they even removed GNOME). I think some repositories added by me were disabled, so I just enabled them again. I really couldn’t be happier as all the issues I used to have with suspending and whatnot have been fixed.

Is Hypr a viable option? I thought I read somewhere that Hypr was started as a project to get a “hyprland-like” experience on x11, but that it’s not consistently maintained. I’ve wanted to experiment with hyprland, but the wokeness of Wayland has been a deterrent. If Hypr works, I’ll have to start playing around with it.

Hypr was Vaxry’s original window manager, but he switched to making hyprland because wayland had the features that he was looking for. Hypr has not seen a commit in almost 2 years.
