Nouveau driver, but no dual monitor setup!

Hey,

To build or not to build …

I managed to build the rpms for nVidia-470 (470.256.02) for one flavor ‘Desktop’.
With lot of warning and errors, see: Build.txt.

After install these rpms …
An enormous lagging of keyboard and mouse.
That it’s impossible to enter my password.
So and ‘autologin’ …
With ‘Plasma X11’ it crasht.
With ‘Plasma Wayland’ it got through.

But, in my humble opinion, ‘nVidia (470) driver’ and ‘Wayland’ is not a good marriage.
Is there no way to make the nVidia-470 driver work with X11 in OpenMandriva?
Compared to my Ubuntu based distros.
It’s the same computer (Desktop) just a different hard disk.
Whichever I choose, X11 or Wayland, for the Xserver daemon …
The nVidia-470 driver always forces it to X11.

Terminal command on Ubuntu based distros: ‘env | grep XDG’ => result always: ‘XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11’

nVidia470.tar.xz (34.0 KB)

If you go to OpenMandriva Chat and communicate with zeroability, angr-beer, and berolinux you could build this software in ABF (Automated build farm) and have it in the repos. Maintaining just one such package, even with nVidia as the source, should not take to much time. nVidia software tends to be harder to work with. I know OM has a lot of users with older hardware that would appreciate having this package if we could get it built and have someone to maintain it.

Building packages with ABF gui or abf/abb from command line is very easy once you get used to it. (Knowing how to fix packages is the hard part but those are the people that can help with that also.)

I mention zeroability, angry-beer, and berolinux becuase they are already doing the current nvidia package and a lot of the fiddly farting with that should be same or similar for 470.

Maybe I missed something in the communication and should have mentioned this earlier. If so I apologize.

Hey,

The days of making RPMS are in the past for me.
I build them to see if I can still do.
No more, no less.

I found some patches for the 470 nVidia driver (470.256.02) on the internet.
The build completed with lots of warning and errors.
Sorry I don’t understand them all.

And have two question.
Why this driver works only with Wayland?
And why the enormous lagging of keyboard and mouse?
This compared with the Ubuntu based distros.

Thanks,
MauRice
