I’m Marco, and i’ve been exploring OpenMandriva for the past few weeks. I chose this distribution because I was looking for an out-of-the-box. RPM-based system that is non-commercial and backed by an open community where everyone can contribute and learn.
Right now, I’m testing:
OpenMandriva ROCK in a virtual machine on my desktop PC.
OpenMandriva ROME on my MacBook Air (2012), where I’m unfortunately experiencing some trackpad issues (I’ll discuss this in more detail in a separate post to keep things focused).
I’m excited to dive deeper into this distribution and learn alongside all of you. If you have any tips or resources for a newcomer, I’d love to hear them!
Thank you so much! It makes me really happy to see so many italians in this community. I hope there are just as many members from all around the world, global collaboration and solidarity are more important than ever.
I’ve been aware of Gnu/Linux systems since the early 2000s, and they’ve always fascinated me, though I only started using them actively in 2013. For about five years now, I’ve been using them exclusively at home: currently, I run Void Linux on my desktop and Linux Mint on my laptop.
I’ve always been drawn to distributions with a KISS philosophy, especially Slackware and Void Linux, which I find remarkable for their simplicity and elegance. I’ve also dabbled with CRUX and Exherbo to expand my knowledge, but with modest success (the learning curve was a bit steep for me).
Now, I’m looking for an out-of-the-box distribution that still allows me to learn and experiment. OpenMandriva caught my attention for several reasons:
It’s community-driven, with no corporate backing.
It uses RPM, a packaging system I’m eager to learn more about.
I really appreciated the page explaning how to contribute. It feels like an open and inclusive project, exactly what I was looking for.
