New updates, new problems

Hello,

OMV LX 3.03

KDE

After this new huge update (including kernel 4.15-2) with many new kde packages:

  • Had to manually run dkms install for bbswitch and nvidia
  • Had to try three, sometimes four times before having a good login without a message on ksmserver failed to start. What happens is that when this pop up window shows up choosing restart ksmserver or just to exit yields back to the sddm login screen
  • When finally I have “a good login” I get another pop up window that has Phonon's VLC backend failed to start - this usually means a problem with your VLC installation, please report a bug with your distributor

should be fixed with kholidays-5.43.0-2 and phonon4qt5-vlc-0.9.1-1

It seems the version for kholidays is 17…

$ LC_ALL=C urpmi kholidays

kholidays-16.04.3-1-omv2015.0.x86_64 (in order to keep kholidays-17.04.0-1-omv2015.0.x86_64)

this is because it went from part of kde apps (17.x.x) to part of kde frameworks (5.x). the old 5.43-1 update did not correctly upgrade from this, so you need to wait for 5.43-2 to appear in the mirrors or update it from Main Testing.

thanks
cris.

It is weird that one of my two computers see the updates and the other not.
Is it possible that they have different $MIRRORLIST’s?
How can I see the content of $MIRRORLIST?

OK! Sorry,

I’ve already asked this in this forum …

Thanks

One thing you can do to avoid some problems and also to make it easier to know what is causing a problem is to break big updates in to smaller groups. In this case I updated the 14 systemd-237 and rebooted before proceeding. I alway prefer to update major system package groups like systemd, glibc, kernel, gcc, clang/LLVM individually (there may be others). May be wise to do same with graphic packages as well.

So far I have had no problems with todays updates. However I did have kholidays-5.43.0-2 in my list. phonon4qt5-vlc-0.9.1-1 I had to install manually.

Thanks for the tips on those packages @crisb.

Edit: FWIW: This system was set (by default) to use Phonon GStreamer not Phonon VLC.

Try after running ‘urpmi.update -a’.

These packages were at main updates very soon. I had problems with $MIRRORLIST in one of my computers and, to solve it, I removed configured repositories using MCC and then I add them again.

Everything is OK now.

Thanks.

I am getting these errors in Updates. Why?
