LXC for Linux containers hasn't been updated and Open Mandriva release cycles

Hello,

  • OpenMandriva Lx version:
    Cooker/Rolling

  • Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…):
    No Desktop Environment

  • Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):
I’m planning to migrate from Ubuntu/Arch directly to OM in a few weeks, so I’m searching for my most used packages in day-to-day routine to find out if OM is suitable to my needs. In that search I found out that LXC hasn’t been updated in years and also I’m not too familiar with the release cycles of Open Mandriva. Is Cooker safe to use in a personal server or it break too often?
Most of my work is done inside QEMU Virtual Machines and now Linux Containers too, to be very honest I’m trying to mimic Proxmox behavior inside a normal Linux distro. I pretty much have to know-how to do so and now I’m on Ubuntu Server just to test a few things and how it compares to Arch. My setup is pretty much done here on Ubuntu but I’m concerned about some issues that it could have.
Back to my questions, these are my only software I use in my bare metal machine:
    QEMU
    Libvirt
    LXC
    Virt-Manager
    Docker
With all these softwares I’m pretty much covered, at lesat with cooker versions, but I still need to know more about the stability of cooker and depending of the responses I get I may or may not need to study the idea a little more to be able backport software from cooker to ROME for example.

  • Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…):
LXC 4.0 but latest is 6.0

I Would be more than happy to truly help OM in any kind or form if needed like reporting bugs, test new versions of software and create documentation. I worked in some projects before but I left those projects because of health issues and also because of some issues with the staff most likely because of my personal goals. But I still have good relations with the team so if I return to there it won’t be a problem.
Sorry for my english! Greetings from Brazil! Thank you very much!

As the development branch Cooker can’t be stable, by design.
You probably want to prefer Rock (6.0 upcoming release) for the server.

ROME, the rolling release, is intended for individual users.

Welcome! We are glad to see you here.

Cooker is not stable. It is our testing/development branch. It breaks.

ROME is good for users. It rolls like Arch, but not as often.

Rock is stable and is best for servers. Our new Rock 6 will be available in a day or two. If you choose Rock, wait for that ISO to be available.

Thank you for clarifying things! Yesterday I was busy documenting my way of doing virtualization and containers, that way I can switch between bare metal operating systems easier. Honestly speaking I was thinking to stay on Ubuntu a little more just because of LXD package(that is offered as a SNAP package), but if LXC got updated I believe I can make the switch to Open Mandriva. Anyway I’ll do a few more tests in a QEMU VM and if I find anything different I’ll report in the right place.

Thank you very much!
