LIVE USB version vs an installed ROME version

Hello,

  • ROME

  • KDE

Apps failing to install on ROME version that I installed from the LIVE USB to an mSATA drive, but apps installed fine on the LIVE CD version when I tested it… hence why I installed it because everything was working perfectly as expected…

Example I used the built in app installer welcome screen to try to install Steam and it asks for password, I enter the password and it takes a sec and then just says “installation failed”.

I tried several other apps like Brave browser and Lutris also, which also failed with the same error but installed on the LIVE USB version with no issues…

I did use btrfs file system during install instead of ext4 as it was suggesting does that make a difference?

Welcome! We are happy to see you here.

The repos just came back up. We were doing a sync from Cooker to ROME. I am guessing that may have been your problem. Can you try it again?

Those downloads are working now, thanks, a few things still failing like proton install and a weird issue with steam throwing an error about a steam drive not executable, but I think thats because of a permissions issue because im moving from another linux distro to this one if I can get everything working how I want that is.

When I moved, I installed ROME. Copied my ~/ folder in. Got everything updated. Installed steam. Everything from the steam install just overwrote what it needed to. Everything worked.

I was worried about breaking something as I am trying to move from Garuda to this, Garuda is a version of Arch… copying the whole thing over also exceeds destination drive space. Basically the whole reason to switch is because Garuda is highly bloated, it uses up over 500gigs of drive space with all the packages, games usually run perfect on it though because they have all the gaming thigns that are needed already installed to it.
Right now I cannot even get The First Descendant to run on OpenMandriva through steam when it works on the other distro, so thats interesting, I click play and it spins and then goes back to the play button again. I assume it’s related to drive permissions still even though I set the system to mount all the drives I need ons start up.

Copying a few folders might be ideal, but im not sure which ones to copy over that wont actually break things, lol
