You’re wrong. Devuan needs Debian just as much as Mint needs Ubuntu and Debian.
OpenMandriva is independent because it doesn’t use repositories from other distros.

Not sure what’s a good place to break this news, but might as well share it here since it is relevant to the topic. Artix stopped officially supporting XLibre and switched back to X11. Reasons were because the developer who was maintaining XLibre on Artix, Artist, was harassed to the point of resignation. Developer nous also said that someone made a bunch of sock-puppet accounts to deflect blame from XLibre.
My take on this is that this is serious, but that also means investigating equally as serious. At least from my personal account, I’m not able to find absolute proof of harassment leading to Artist’s resignation other than his personal account of the matter. It also doesn’t help that the bugs aren’t listed and I checked the bug tickets in all the relevant repositories, but didn’t find much. I don’t know, maybe I’m not looking hard enough.
What are your takes on this? And since OpenMandriva officially supports XLibre, how does this news affect OM?
X11 is no longer supported, so why would Artix change back to it? That makes no sense.
According to Artist, a new package in the SonicDE repositories was made and the package is for systemd only which goes in conflict with Artix’s systemd-free philosophy. He said it would make more work for him in the future. The maintainers of XLibre and SonicDE (the same people) offered to pay him to keep helping with development, but he took that as an insult. He also said that XLibre was full of bugs.
Now this is all one person’s account and if he did legit got harassed, I feel bad about that. But the lack of a reliable paper trail does leave me confused.
XLibre may have some bugs, but it is actively being maintained. If Artix is SystemD free, then I guess Artix has the right to do whatever they choose. As far as Artist is concerned, if the offer of money offends him, well, be offended.

Nice to hear about that. There’s all this hoopla about the Artix breakup, but trying to find a reliable papertrail of all the alleged harassment and bugs is impossible. Like where are the bug tickets?

I think we are at the point where normal people have to stand up and stop letting bullies walk over us. We all have to do it ourselves. No one else is going to do it for us.

I watched Brodies video on this, It just sounds like the wrong guy was maintaining it for them and really wasnt capable, nothing more.

If that’s the case, then it makes the drama look all the more silly. And thinking about it more, you might be right. Artist complained about being ghosted by the XLibre maintainers when bringing concern about XLibre’s alleged bugs, but such behavior wouldn’t be limited to one person. It would be a recurring issue if that’s the case.
Out of curiosity, I checked out the Devuan forum since the distro is also systemd-free. Not a single peep about the Artix/XLibre divorce.
I have not heard about all these XLibre bugs. We run it here and I don’t hear complaints.

Vendefoul Wolf (Devuan-based so also systemd-free) still uses XLibre and SonicDE based on what I’ve read from its X account.
So yeah, on a scale of Zoe Quinn to legit, I find Artist’s allegations to becloser to the Zoe Quinn side.

I don’t think I’m reinventing the wheel here when I say that open-source projects are full of weirdos.
For now, the left-leaning weirdos have the upper hand. Unfortunately, every action has a reaction. Sooner or later, it’ll swing the other way. Both situations are absolutely terrible.
I read the threads about the xlibre issue on the artix forum…
It’s some kind of shitstorm being waged at the emotional level of 12-year-olds.
Some are insulting the developer because he found bugs in the code; others claim there are no bugs. The developer takes offense at offers to pay for his work.
It’s like a battle between 12-year-olds over crayons.
I’m no saint—I’ve been sarcastic here on this forum during coffee breaks. But still, I hope there’s a difference between heated discussions in sections like Hyde Park and just shitting on developers for the sake of shitting on developers in the forum’s technical sections.
Pardon my language, but the world has gone to shit—people have lost their minds.
I’m so fucking tired of this.

Fun fact: the previous government claimed it was protecting us from this, while at the same time passing laws that make all this crap possible. The current one isn’t even trying to hide anything. So we’ll go down the drain like Canada and England—only much faster. I won’t bore you to death with Poland’s political and economic situation. Suffice it to say that, as someone who isn’t a die-hard supporter of any political ideology but who observes actions and legislation, I can see quite clearly the direction this is heading. It doesn’t matter who’s in power. The exact same pattern applies to the rest of the countries. People, however, instead of interpreting what they see, live in the hope that “my politicians” are better than the politicians the “others” vote for—who are, of course, the “idiots.”
The worst part is that this applies to every area of life, even though I started out talking about politics here.

I have come to the conclusion that gov’t, in general, is incapable of not doing great harm, and that harm is cumulative, and voting, at best, only eases up on the throttle of that harm a wee bit, and can never stop the harm, much less reverse it.
