KDE no menu or plasmoids, endless disk activity & coredumps!

Hello,

Requirements:

I have Searched the forum for my issue and found nothing related or helpful
I have checked the Resources category (Resources Index)
I have reviewed the Wiki for relevant information
I have read the the Release Notes and Errata

OpenMandriva Lx version:

Rome 25.06

Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…):

KDE X11

Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):

On first start/login there is sporadically no “Start” menu available, some Plasmoids show blank spaces, there is no VT available (CTRL-ALT-F1/2/3), the hard disk activity light is permanently on and the only thing I can do is a CTRL-ALT-BKSPACE which allows me to re-login.

After logging in and running the system log viewer and btop, I see continuous “kf.baloo: Extractor crashed” errors.

I had this same problem back in March or April this year when I first tried OM but just put it down to a bad install or something. This is a relatively new install (3 weeks?) and everything was completely normal until today - then this weird stuff happened.

Anyone else experience this? I did find another thread which was sort of on this theme but it turned out it was the Nouveau driver, and I’m using Radeon.

Regards,
Kev.

Re-seat your ram and turn off XMP(those CPU’s were quite finicky back then). If that doesn’t help boot from a live usb and check disk health.

Agreed. That many problems means it’s typically hardware related.
