Hello,
Requirements:
I have [Searched]the forum for my issue and found nothing related or helpful
I have checked the [Resources category ]
I have reviewed the [Wiki] for relevant information
I have read the [Release Notes and Errata]
OpenMandriva Lx version:
OpenMandrivaLx.rolling-snapshot.20260522.4518-plasma6x11.znver1.iso
Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…):
KDE X11
Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):
I am quite new to Linux. I decided at the beginning of June to move away from Windows and landed on Linux Mint. I started getting comfortable using Linux systems to the point where I dusted off my Raspberry Pi3b and managed to install pihole and unbound to it completely through ssh. In short, I am still a beginner but I enjoy the tinkering. Of course, as any normal Linux immigrant, or Windows refugee, my eyes started to wander and I noticed the insane amounts of political influence on the various distros. But openMandriva refuses to bend the knee. And that’s when I knew, I want to support these guys. Like many of you here as well.
Last night my issues started. I flashed the iso to a usb stick. Booted up. Selected the first option and openMandriva refused to boot any further. I pressed escape and saw there was an issue with the partitioning, did some reading and found I shouldn’t use Rufus. I tried again with balenaEtcher. This time I reached a login screen. This confused me but I clicked on the login arrow and the screen went black for about one to two minutes and returned me to the login screen. I tried a few more times with similar results.
I then tried the troubleshooting option and selected the “graphics safe” environment and I managed to boot into the live usb and install openMandriva. I suspected it was a nVidia driver issue and thought I’ll just install the driver once openMandriva is installed.
I booted to the installed version, typed in my password and… black screen for about one to two minutes and returned me to the login screen. I tried again, same result. Then I noticed in the corner “X11”. I clicked on it and selected Wayland and FINALLY I was in! But only one of my two screens were displaying and the resolution was low. I try to install the nVidia drivers through the welcome screen and it fails. I do research on how to install the drivers manually and I am greeted with a message about kernel mismatches. At this point I start using AI to guide me through this mess. I find that the drivers in the repositories are for, I think, kernel 6.13 or something and I am on 7.0.something. And then I gave up.
What is wrong, or what am I doing wrong? All the documentation, guides and videos I found are so straightforward but I just can’t get my openMandriva going.
Sorry for the long post.
