Hello,
- OpenMandriva Lx version:
I am not sure. The latest version as far as I know.
- Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…):
Also not sure.
- Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):
My computer is unable to boot from USB
- Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…):
I have an older laptop from 2009 that I would like to use to begin learning linux. The specs are:
ASUS G60VX
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 2.13GHz
4 gigs RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
I download the ISO file ‘openmandriva.rome-24.12-plasma6.x11.x86_64’ and used ROSA ISO image writer to create a bootable USB stick. Trouble is after creating the bootable USB I went into the ASUS BIOS and found that there was no option to boot from USB. I tried to find an updated BIOS that would allow booting from USB but apparently ASUS only has a single BIOS version available. As an experiment I tried that USB stick in another laptop that can boot from USB and it worked.
I thought I would try booting from DVD instead. I downloaded WinISO and burned a copy of ‘openmandriva.rome-24.12-plasma6.x11.x86_64’ to a DVD. I went into the ASUS BIOS and told the computer to boot from the DVD drive and put the Mandriva ISO DVD in the drive, restarted the computer, and nothing. Dead.
I the put a windows bootable dvd in the drive and tried that and the computer booted from that disk so it doesn’t seem to have a problem booting from the DVD drive. Just won’t boot from the Mandriva disk I created.
When I burned that Mandriva ISO to disk all I told WinISO to do was burn the ISO file straight to disk. Is that the wrong way to go about it? Or is that the right way to go about it but the ISO file is only meant to work with a USB?
Since booting this old ASUS laptop from USB is not possible is there a way to make a bootable Mandriva DVD? Or is there possibly a third way to get Mandriva installed on this computer?
Thanks much
