Internal keyboard not working - "i8042 probe failed error -22"

Hello,

  • OpenMandriva Lx version:
    Rome, latest

  • Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…):
KDE, but issue persists to TTY

  • Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):
During bootup, the screen flashes for a moment with the error in the title - “i8042 probe failed error -22” - and from that point forward, keyboard inputs using the built in keyboard do not work. Keyboard works in UEFI rom, as well as in GRUB.

  • Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…):
Samsung Chromebook 500C, Dell Chromebook 3180, both modified using mrchromebox.tech builds of CoreBoot firmware. Both present the same issue.
Multiple kernel versions tested, Kernel 6.11 from my install ISO, 6.12 from updating after that, and the more recent 6.13, issue persists.
Issue does NOT persist in other distrbutions, tested distributions being Debian and Arch, both of which I’ve used extensively on these devices.
using dmesg to look at the logs does not bring up any more detail about what is happening - the bootup goes normally, hits the error that flashes on screen, then continues like nothing happened.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I don’t know that this will necessarily be my new home, but I at least hope to be able to help the project by at least reporting issues I have along the way.
I really would like to be able to use OM on these little chromebooks, is there anyone with potential insight as to why the i8042 module is throwing a fit? I’ve already tried setting some boot variables related to it, namely i8042.nopnp, sounds like hotplug support if I had to guess by name, I forget what the result of that was but it did not help. I will try the i8042.nopnp again, and maybe some other variables if I can find a list, and report how the error changes.

I don’t know if anyone here is running chrome books. We are a pretty small distro, so there aren’t that many people hanging out here in the forums.

@Runi I’m having the same issue. I’m testing different distros on a Dell Chromebook 11 3189 with the mrchromebox CoreBoot firmware. Fedora and Debian are fine, but for some reason OM is just not picking up the keyboard. I tried rome and rock, using the regular and slim versions. Spent a couple hours on ChatGPT trying different grub boot options. If you figure it out, let me know.
