If you’re unfamiliar with ElDewrito, it’s a community-made mod for Halo Online, a cancelled free Halo 3 derived PC game originally for the Russian market. You can simply download and play this mod now.
How I updated the official guide
ElDewrito and Linux distros: Historically a confusion
This guide above was the most confusing thing for people on Linux distributions for a long time. I remember many years ago struggling with the instructions myself, and I’ve personally attempted to install it on my PC more than a handful of times. Each time, I thought surely that the guide would be updated in a way that made sense. I’m not kidding, either. Initially, for years, installing ElDewrito either depended on some outdated script on Lutris for a version that was near its first public release, or was an uphill battle attempting to coax some mysterious Sasquatch that lurked the public Discord (which is a massive problem in and of itself). Seriously, what does this actually mean:
- Place the launcher in Z:\ElDewrito
To this day, I’m still not entirely sure. No one else I asked in the Discord chatroom over the years that bothered to reply were sure. It might mean put it in the root directory (according to the usual conventions of WINE and Proton, apparently). However, considering that whichever interpretation I was able come up with or find, I wasn’t getting anywhere close to having this game work like the breeze it usually is setting up games with Proton, I have my doubts. This was one of those things that the Forerunners decided I had to solve, apparently, so I got to it and blazed my fingertips against the keyboard pounding the reliable result out for 4 hours straight.
Proudly made with OpenMandriva Lx
All that said, I wanted to ensure that OpenMandriva Lx users got first-class treatment, as they deserve. I am happy to share that I created the revised Steam Play | Steam Deck and Linux distros section of the ElDewrito Guide on my OpenMandriva Lx 6.0 (Vanadium) Rock x86_64 installation, so it should work for all of you who wish to play.
Happy *BLAM!*ing!
