hello, i noticed that the new openmandriva 6 is out and i thought to trying it again
latest openmandriva 5 wasn’t starting at all when installed in my pc, but seems like the new openmandriva 6 is working flawlessy, soi i had a look around (at the gnome spin) and i’ll be honest, i love it
when i saw latest omv5 gnome spin it was seriously bloated with unnecessary programs but now the distro has reached a nice balance, and finally i can remove unwanted apps without breaking the whole system like in omv5
there are anyway three applications that i would like to remove but i can’t cause they still remove the “gnome-task” package and that would break my system
1 gnome-system-monitor, gnome-usage is also bundled and i would like to use that one but removing system-monitor would remove also system packages
2 various terminals on the system (gnome-terminal + plus a gtk3/gtk4 terminal) but of course removing those would result in system package also removed and that would break my system. I like to use black box which is packaged already so i would like to remove those
now, i know (as per an older thread i made) that i can remove apps without dependencies but, is safe to remove those particular apps?any opinion?
(for the record, even if already stated, i’m on openmandriva gnome)
Credit for OpenMandriva Gnome goes to @AngryPenguin. Obviously the way to remove software without removing dependencies is rpm -e --nodeps package_name but what would happen in Gnome if you remove those apps @AngryPenguin should answer.
One thing you could try, and this is a little bit involved, would be to fire up an OM 6.0 VM to test this out on. You can install OM 6.0, then see what happens when you remove those programs. If your VM install breaks…then you know you shouldn’t do it with your main system. If all goes well, then you have some reassurance that you should be fine
I’m on ROME, but I have a separate ROME VM that, if I’m unsure of something, I’ll try out in the virtual environment to see what happens. It’s worked out pretty nicely for me
