How to fix cinnamon not working

:+1: :sunglasses:
Good choice.

Actually the alternative desktops on top of a working Plasma (or maybe also the LXQt) iso installed should work fine.
Probably even better a Gnome iso.

I was just going to test the COSMIC desktop on the Plasma6 slim iso today, when some more urgent tasks stole me from the test
(we always get some more urgent things to look after… :face_with_raised_eyebrow: )

Will keep you informed and probably will make a post about.

It actually works!

Cool!
Glad that you sorted.

Glad you got it going!

For me the latest cinnamon iso(3629). Gave me a black screen(which is very common even on linux mint for various reason from clutter to cinnamon screen saver, cinnamon-settings, a theme). I was able to open a terminal with keyboard shortcuts. I’m happily running XFCE from a December 23, 2024 build(cooker 3518). On my work laptop. I highly recommend MATE if you love cinnamon. The older versions of cinnamon were much much stable. Even in fallback mode.

Welcome!

That’s been my experience here as well. Couldn’t get Cinnamon Cooker to boot in a VM or on two different machines. Installing Cinnamon top of the minimal Plasma Rome install does not work on a desktop machine or laptop, but eventually came up in a QEMU VM (had to let it sit for a while).
I’ll keep it on one of my test machines for now. Still need to test some more to see which distro I will be using to replace Fedora as I purge Fedora off of all my systems (no longer want to use it after leaving my old job).

I’ve been using Pasma and XFCE installed off a the Plasma Slim Rome ISO. I did install the cinnamon desktop and I check it out after any cinnamon updates. I probably will just stick to XFCE mainly. It takes a little more time setting up but as a whole, as long as it works, I’m fine with it. Overall I’m very happy with OpenMandriva. Will be working on getting all my systems over to it.

As an alternative to Cinnamon, on some systems I’ll run NsCDE. But I had worked in AIX on and off for a number of years, so I have plenty of familiarity with the UI.

Curious to know if anyone has gotten Cinnamon to work on Rome. I never am able to get the panel to load so I figure there has to be something missing in a setting or a missing package.
