Since I am currently running Manjaro with XFCE and Hyprland, on my bare metal, I would like to try the XFCE spin instead of the very nice kde Rome version so I can just keep all my configs in my /home partition. How stable is the most up-to-date rolling XFCE spin? Will I be able to install Hyprland alongside XFCE? Although I appreciate the sleekness of thid KDE version, I don’t want to mix and mingle the configs that are currently in my home directory. Has anyone tried a setup like this? How did it go? What does it mean by, “Product build list will be removed in 28 d.”
I have not tried the XFCE spin. I am not a Window Manager guy, so I can’t say anything about Hyprland.
When new product is built and placed on the build list, it will fall off in 90 days. Just above that, it states. (Notified at January 08, 2025 13:12) and this was when it was placed on the list. A lot of new ISOs are being built and listed right now, so that spin is about to be replaced. They just can’t all be built at the same time. We don’t have that many people, or that much server.
I see. After further reading it seems that the spins are not near ready for bear metal install. I’m going to just install the kde Rome version and hope for the best.
If you see a spin that is a few days old, it is working. A lot of fixes have been rolled out the past couple of weeks. If you want XFCE, just wait a few days.
Xfce is fairly stable, I had it on bare metal. I do not use KDE myself, I instead use LXQT, I3, and Awesome on OMLX and they are very stable in my opinion. I tried XFCE, but it is not for me but it was stable
Well, the wait is over. There it is. Things can change quickly around here.
As soon as we get aware of a request which can be reasonably satisfied
Update: I’ve been living the KDE life since I installed it yesterday, and I’m impressed by how fast it is. I’m used to working with lightweight, bare-bones window managers, so I expected to notice some bloat with KDE. But this version is so snappy that it hasn’t bothered me at all. I might stick with it for a while, especially since I can’t seem to get my favorite window managers—Qtile or Hyprland—working without diving deeper into their setups. I’ll update again if I ever make any progress on this, ir if I choose to go down a spin.
